Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, leads former state Rep. Paul Sadler, D-Henderson in the District 1 state Senate runoff election.
With 84.35 percent of boxes reporting, Eltife has 50.81 percent of the ballots counted. Sadler has 49.19 percent of the vote.
With 100 percent of Lamar County boxes reporting, Sadler had 59.88 percent and Eltife took 40.11 percent in the county.
The Paris News will have complete election returns as well as comments from both candidates in its Wednesday print edition.

KEYWORDS: 2004; eltife
According to my Excel spreadsheet (updated at the same time as this article), Eltife only needs 33% of the outstanding votes to win. I don't know why the press won't call it.

Amen. That's sounds good for Texas. Also, Reagonomics should've shown America how supply side and demand side economics can blend effectively.
But a true supply side economy would be the best, settling on a good price for all.

I'm glad I wasn't in this district. I would have had to hold my nose to vote for Eltife. No way I would have voted for Sadler after his attempt to block troops serving overseas from voting.

I don't know why the press won't call it. What do you think? How about that "(R)" after his name?

Bill Ratliff and Kevin Eltife were all over commercials together shaking hands and smiling. Bill Ratliff is the POS that tried his best to stop redistricting. He was of the opinion that the democrats should control the majority of districts in Texas, although a majority of the state is republican. Redistricting is the the prime reason Ratliff resigned from the legislature.

I'm glad I wasn't in this district. I would have had to hold my nose to vote for Eltife. I was under the impression Eltife was the best of the three candidates, Sadler, Merritt (who was most similar to Ratliff, voted against redistricting, and was defeated in the first round), and Eltife, the more traditional Republican.

Ratliff said that he was as offended by the attack ads "as I was when I took on FreePAC and its unscrupulous campaign tactics a few years ago." In the 2000 legislative campaign, the hard-right FreePAC political action committee attacked moderate Republicans including both Ratliff and Merritt as soft on gays and abortion rights. The best guy in the race, Eltife, won. And RATliff actually did something good for once, helping him.
