Is Cheney ready to do what's got to be done in this election campaign?

My personal opinion is that this is going to be the nastiest Presidential race since the 19th Century, and I think that Cheney does not have the personality to go toe to toe with Kerry and his number two. I think that Guiliani would be a better choice. Guiliani is too liberal for my tastes, but on the other hand, he might be able to deliver NY, and he is certainly the kind of guy who could sling mud with Kerry. I don't think it would be smart for Bush to wade too deep into the mire, and Cheney's too easy going to do it.

I remember Cheney leading the chant:
"The wheel has turned, it is time for them TO GO"
He had them pretty fired up.
Yes, he's JUST the man to deal with these nasty weasels. He oozes calm cool competence.
And don't forget what he said when Bush pointed out that Adam Clymer is a "major league *******", Cheney smartly replied "Big Time".

I'm sure you are being sarcastic...because he wiped the floor with Joe. From the debate:
Lieberman also insisted that most Americans are better off now than they were at the beginning of the Clinton-Gore Administration, teasing Cheney about the lucrative stock options he had received for his work as chairman of the oil services company, Haliburton Inc.
"I see Dick, from the newspapers, that you're better off than you were eight years ago too," Lieberman said.
Cheney replied: "And I can tell you Joe that the government had absolutely nothing to do with it."

BTW, George W. Bush has stated Cheney's his man and that's it.
Why does this topic keep coming up?
Don't you realize what the media would do with such a ticket shakeup at this point?
Stuff and nonsense. Get behind Bush and CHENEY 2004
To: I got the rope
?? How does that exchange prove your point? Kerry is not going to be as genteel as Lieberman.
To: Phsstpok
You are right on with Chaney. I think he is a great VP and can go toe to toe with any Dem VP. For the Republican party to change the ticket now would give the opposition a lot of tail wind.
Chaney is a loyal Conservative that would be a great Commander in Chief if the need arises. God forbid.

As pointed out by another reply, Cheney really looked bad against Lieberman.Huh?
You misinterpreted somebody's post.
BIG TIME
To: cyncooper
Not a very memorable line. I don't remember it.
To: Brilliant
Were you not around in 2000 when he debated Lieberman?
It was no contest. He has Gravitas!
Whoever the democrats choose, "Bring it On".

It was a wonderful moment. And I think Cheney is outstanding in his job.
Unfortunately, I don't think Cheney is young and healthy enough to run on his own in 2008. Shouldn't Bush think about a Vice President who could be the 2008 party candidate?

If you don't remember the "Wheel" line, I have to wonder about your republican supporting credentials.
If you don't remember the infamous "Clymer/Big Time" bit, then you are so clueless so as to have demonstrated your opinion is worthless.

Cheney really looked bad against Lieberman Were we watching the same debate? Cheney crushed him!!! He did it with style and class, but he was very sharp. Cheney can be devasting in a most understated way. Don't worry about him at all!
To: labard1
I agree with that too. Unfortunately, though, who are the choices? I have to admit that there are no great alternatives to Cheney. Powell? Nah. Obviously not Jeb, though he would be a good choice but for the fact that he's the President's brother. How about Zell Miller?
To: cyncooper
Yeah, I remember Clymer/Big Time. You consider that was helpful?
To: Rokke
in the debate with Lieberman back in 2000 . . . I thought Cheney was very effective, in a low-key way. 'Course Lieberman helped, with his attempt at class warfare:Lieberman:
"I've been in the Senate while you have been in the private sector.
My wife would like me to get some of the big bucks in the private sector."
Cheney:"You tell your wife we Republicans are doing our level best to get you into the private sector!"
The "great debate" format smells to high heaven; it's a perfect illustration of what's wrong with journalism. There you have two people who are, putatively, qualified to be vice president (that is, qualified to be president) of the United States)--and they are "positioned" as subordinate to some unelected journalist, or panel of journalists. The reason for the moderator and or panel is simple: the program exists not to produce light (a clear definition of the qualities, perspective, and temperment of each candidate) but heat (a "gaffe" or other opening for the journalists to exploit). A candidate who demanded a mano a mano session with no mediation but a chess timer controling the microphone would show me something. The Republicans are foolish not to do so; the Democrats are best served being in the center--between the Republican candidate on the right and the journalist on the left. In that situation it is a real coup for a Republican just to break even.

Attention Brilliant, Attention Brilliant! Please check your wattage. On this matter, you're well under the 1 lux level.
To: Brilliant
Why, yes. Yes, I do.
To: Brilliant
"How about Zell Miller?"First you want some New Yawk gun-grabbing abortionist liberal...then you want a democrat for the GOP VP candidate? What the heck are you smoking?

Zell Miller could easily be a Republican. Of course, he's not the perfect candidate either. The problem is that there really is no perfect choice. I have to disagree with most of you though. Cheney is not the perfect candidate either.
To: PeoplesRepublicOfWashington
Cheney is the man who could "whup" any Dem they nominate for VP in a debate.
Just hope it's Edwards, Cheney will rip him apart.
Each time I see Cheney in an interview on the tube, I am amazed at his command of the interview.
Cheney does have gravitas, but so does the Prez.
