TIRED OF HEARING KERRY CALLED A 'HERO'

Letter Of The Week TIRED OF HEARING KERRY CALLED A 'HERO' Thank you for your article, Kerry's post-battlefield conversion is pathetic.

I spent three tours in Vietnam with the 5th Special Forces (Airborne) with side trips to Laos and Cambodia. I lost twenty-three of my friends during the war. That is the price you pay for the profession we followed.

However, the America public and a lot of Vietnam Veterans are being taken in by John Kerry's service in Vietnam. If you read about the award of his three Purple Hearts, they were nothing but scratches. If my Team Medic would have put me in for a Purple Heart every time I was dinged, I would have a chest full of them also, I wouldn't been able to face my fellow Team Mates. He used those three awards to get out of further combat. Also, the award of his Silver Star is rather dubious. It was up-graded from a Bronze Star, which by the way, I have three of them. During the Anti-war protest, the Vietnam Veterans threw their medals on the steps in Washington. When Kerry's were seen displayed in his office, someone asked him, didn't you throw those away during the protest? His reply, the ones I threw were symbolic.

I'm sorry that I got on a roll. I'm just tired of hearing what a "hero" Kerry claims to be. I would like to see that picture of him with the VC Flag behind him when he was telling everyone what evil things we done in Vietnam displayed more often.

Sgt. Major Edward F. Komac USA Retired

Sorry, but your conclusion is pure idiocy.
I served six years in the Marines (infantry) with a whole lot of Vietnam veterans who trained me in jungle, mountain, and desert warfare. My respect for them is beyond words.

You see, those veterans came back from Vietnam and used their experiences to train Marines like me at Camp Geiger, Twenty-Nine Palms, Pickle Meadows, and a whole lot of other places. They did NOT come home and berate their former comrades as baby-killers and sadists, and then befriend the likes of Jane Fonda and others who ultimately gave aid and comfort to the people who were killing our own fighting men.

And I am sure that not one of those veterans who trained me would think of holding himself up as a "hero" for personal political gain like your scumbag buddy Kerry.

Have a nice life.

You sir, have the best post I have read in years. You and your buddies were every bit the heroes we have fighting in Iraq now. You were fighting a dictator who later murdered millions of the people you were protecting. Don't let any of these dirtbags tell you were anything but a hero, they were wrong and still are. Thank You!

Pray for W and Our Troops

Thanks for the compliment, but we just did our duty. To be an Airborne Ranger you were a volunteer. That meant the we were committed to our duty and we were VERY serious about it. Even after screening over half (in those days) of a given Ranger class will wash out before training is complete. If you were a draftee you had to sign up for an extra year to be a Ranger. By the time we graduated from Ranger school, 10 weeks worth (after Airborne Basic, 10 weeks, Jump School 8 weeks) we were itching for a good fight, and we knew it was going to be in the Nam. The next step would be Special Forces. I looked at the option but decided that they remove just a little too much of your brain up there (don't you green beanies come after me for that crack, you guys still scare me to the latrine). Thank God we got 'em!

As I said (line from a movie) "A hero is some kinda weird sandwich". Of my buddies that made it back we are all better men for what we did. We are kind, hard working, well educated, responsible and, above all, patriotic (by the way, of the 10 of us still around there isn't a democRAT in the bunch).

Again, thanks for your kind words, but lets use our prose to reelect our President and keep that Kerry dirtbag as far away from the office of Commander in Chief as is humanly possible.

Traitor really does fit Kerry. Many wounded far more serious than him didn't get three PH's.

"Traitor really does fit Kerry. Many wounded far more serious than him didn't get three PH's." Oh I have no problem with what Kerry did while he was in the Navy. It's what he did after he was discharged that was treasonous! Semper Fi, Kelly
