The Washington Post London correspondent Glenn Frankel, a Pulitzer Prize winner and former editor of the Post's Sunday magazine, defended his newspaper's editorial judgment.

"We've been down this road many, many times before. We are extremely reluctant to follow this kind of thing up unless there is a really, really compelling public interest. We don't feel there is any reason to until it reaches a threshold.

"All we have at the moment is that the woman's parents, who are republicans, don't like Senator Kerry.

"In any case, nobody would be too shocked if Kerry lied about an affair. Even if someone came to us with photographs we still wouldn't run it. Lying to Don Imus [the radio host to whom Kerry gave his initial denial] is not a federal offence."

Edwards will not likely be the VP candidate.

1. Clinton does not want him as #2... traditionally, the #2 person on a losing ticket becomes the heir apparent four years later... that is why the Clintons want a loser like Clark as #2.

2. Edwards has proven that he cannot carry water in the South -- therefore he is of no asset to the ticket... Kerry will choose Gephardt or Richardson instead -- targeting the midwest/southwest. The only VP candidate that scares me is John Breaux, who is rarely talked about.

3. It is not likely to have two senators on the ticket. We control the Senate and thus the legislative agenda, and therefore we can keep both senators tied up in DC (and off the campaign trail) for all of September if the RATS go down this lane.

I know. Dean made this whole primary fun to watch. Oh well looks like it's going to be WonderWoman and Lurch from now on.

Looks like Kerry is going *DOWN*. His *AFFAIR* may have been the last *STRAW*.

I think it is more his bashing of the president when he said "Gentlemen: Start your engines" at the Daytona 500

NEW QUOTE TODAY

"Mainstream media defence

The Washington Post London correspondent Glenn Frankel, a Pulitzer Prize winner and former editor of the Post's Sunday magazine, defended his newspaper's editorial judgment, which has proved correct.

"We've been down this road many, many times before. We are extremely reluctant to follow this kind of thing up unless there is a really, really compelling public interest. We don't feel there is any reason to until it reaches a threshold," he said. "

He kinda got a bad rap from the press after that primal scream.

Yep. There was one way to counter all the hoopla around the scream and he didn't go for it. All those MP3 Scream Mixes that came out in the two days afterwards? He should have picked one of those and used it as a campaign song. People are laughing at me? Laugh with 'em and then use what they're laughing at as a weapon.

Howard should've defended his 'Passion'- that's him after all. He should have just let it all hang out.

'I'm going to scream all the way to the White House baby- yaaaarrrrggghhhh!'

>>Frankly, I'm really, really surprised that Edwards is pulling this kind of support in Wisconsin. There's a strong anti-Southern bias here.<<

There is? I've lived here all my life (a long time) except for about 2 years when I lived in Mississippi. The only bias I noted was the way I was treated in the South.

I don't know about that "strong anti-Southern bias" in Wisconsin. Lots of Nascar fans who travel south to bask in good old southern comfort.

Kerry's remarks about Daytona being a ''photo-op'' (and then the other snide remarks about Nascar by some of the talking heads) sure didn't help him in Wisconsin--lots & lots of Wisconsin Nascar fans. I see as many (maybe more) folks wearing Nascar jackets as I see wearing snowmobile jackets...and you gotta' figure that lots of those folks have Nascar jackets hanging in the closet at home.

If this finishes tonight as a 10 pt race after polls as late as this weekend showed Kerry with 20%+ leads, this is a huge story!

The story is no longer Kerry wins another one, but "Why is Kerry slipping?"

I truly think just the fact that POLIER came out with the denial may have set off alarm bells in a lot of Dems minds and a lot of them are now rethinking and saying "we are not going through this again!"

This is an indication of just how soft f-in's support really is.

True. Oh well. All the reporters have been talking about an e-mail list that Dean has that is like a gold mine when it comes to internet contributions. They are desperately trying to get their hands on that from Dean. I guess they figure the more they trash him the more he will give up and endorse Kerry and give him that list. I hope Dean realizes what they are doing and never gives that up to them.

Has Nader announced? I'm almost considering opening myself up to the ceaseless Green spam and literature by giving to his campaign just to help split the leftist vote and assure that an American wins the election in November.

That and combined with Edwards' phoniness....he blathers at these campaigns stops about how he was from a working class father and mother and they lived in a mill town (they moved when Edwards was 1 year old)...then he blasts and attacks Bush for being a special interest President who caters to the wealthy...what Edwards does not tell you is that he and his wife just bought not one...but TWO multi-million dollar homes in Washington, D.C. Edwards is a 2-bit phony.

Actually I put my e-mail address down to receive updates. He is probably not going to run a Green Candidate. He will probably run as an Independent. He hasn't announced it yet but its coming very soon.
