I don't think this is quite correct. Turkey is a secular country with a majority moslem population. Not a moslem country. Subtle but important differnce. As I understand it TRurkey even has freedom of religion.
Using the same logic you could say the US is not a Christian nation. It is a secular country with a majority Christian population. Turkey is not an Islamic state like Iran but it is a moslem country.
How convenient to call itself secular when 99.9% of the population is muslim.
You should be aware that Turkey is among the most corrupt and violent nations that has ever existed. The US has certainly cozied up to some despicable characters in the cold war but turkey is the worst.
Hopefully we are rethinking this relationship.
