If it is after the convention and Kerry is nominated and then is taken out, Clark is not elevated to the presidential slot as there is no succession in candidacies -- Bush runs unopposed by Democrats. (I think)

Never happen. They take a page out of the New Jersey playbook. The DemoRATS deserve to have a choice in the election. I tell you, I was absolutely, and totally, dumbstruck at the brass of the New Jersey dems.

for the good of the country, she should step on the track in front of an oncoming locomotive and stand still for a sec or two.

No sheet...

If it happens after the election and Kerry wins, then it is another matter.

By George (W), I think you may be onto something!

A point that seems to be missed when discussing Kerry's "chest full of medals" is that, as an officer, the standards of conduct, INCLUDING valor or heroism, are traditionally much higher than that of the enlisted ranks. As a two tour VN vet(totally and permanently disabled due to COMBAT related injuries), I find it incredible that Kerry received a Silver Star for the actions described in his citation, not to mention the narratives of his own crew members! The Silver Star is our Nations THIRD HIGHEST award for VALOR. To be given such a high decoration for killing an already wounded(by a 50 cal Machine gun!!), unarmed VC combatant, is disgusting. According to his own account, their Swift boat was NOT EVEN UNDER FIRE when the incident occurred.
The Bronze Star award, according to the official record, can hardly be said to meet the necessary criteria either. REMEMBER, Kerry was an OFFICER. As with ANY COMBAT leader, stark courage is a REQUIREMENT. The STANDARD of valor required of an OFFICER is supposed to be higher than that of the enlisted ranks. SO, how the hell did Kerry rate the awards he received?? The answer is, he didn't rate them. To paraphrase an old saying, "He was awarded the medal and he wears it but, they were NOT EARNED."

Get ready for 9 months of not very clever RAT rebuttals every time Bush says something positive.

Kerrry's negatives will be much higher than bush come November. I am predicting now that the buzzword Chris Matthews and other talking heads will be discussing is the 'negativity' issue or the 'negativity factor'. Examples will be "I just find Kerry too negative"...I guarantee a Frank Lutz focus group pollmember will say this.

They take a page out of the New Jersey playbook.

There is a world of difference between what happened in New Jersey and what this would be.

In New Jersey, it was a statewide election where the State Supreme Court made a political ruling that the the US Supreme Court chose not to overrule, presumably thinking that the matter was locally contained within New Jersey.

The presidential election is another matter entirely. All 50 states have a say in the matter. While New Jersey might endorse the argument, Texas would not. While Massachusetts might endorse the matter, Florida would not (maybe their Supreme Court might, but the legislature wouldn't). Nor would Georgia, most of the south, or the mid-west. It's not as easy a matter when all 50 states are involved.

And then there is the question of what to do with the matching federal funds.

No, I believe that if the Democrats tried to do this, they would be exposed as the hypocritical opportunists that they are. There would be howls of protest and the threat of ripping apart the fabric of free elections and peaceful transfer of power that has been the marvel of the United States. The appropriate resolution for a candidate dropping out after the convention is for the Democrats to mount a write-in campaign for whomever they wish to run as a replacement.

A line has to be drawn somewhere, and tampering with the structure of presidential elections has to be crossing over it.

Well I don't think she has any control over what goes on the air. I don't blame her for delays in broadcasting the story.

Yeah, I'm surprised the liberals don't pounce on it. But in reality I don't fault Kerry for it. It was war and the Viet Cong were hiding behind civilians and babies in the jungle.

It was a judgement call, though, and accounts from the theatre insist he was reckless. This is especially cogent now that he's lambasting Bush for getting into an "unnecessary war."

I believe the Clintons are in a quandry. If they take out Kerry, with Super Tuesday ahead, one of the other candidates will be able to win. If they don't take out Kerry, and he runs the table Tuesday, he has 85% of the delegates needed and the Superdelegates would likely put him over the top. They wanted the delegates to be more evenly split at this point, but the Dean attack succeeded too well. Of course, I doubt they counted on YEEEAAARRGGH!

They are likely worried that Kerry will beat Bush and they will be forced to support him until they think it is too late for Hillary to run. If they nail Kerry, Edwards, in their minds, would be an even more likely winner against Bush. They are likely wishing they had left Dean alone, and had him with this lead now. Then take him out for Kerry, then Kerry later to split things.

They tried to hook up but the night ended in frustration as Kerry confused condoms with condiments.

"fighting special interests"

The point Brit was trying to make the other night. The ad was not to say Bush didn't take special interest money .. it was to say Kerry was out there saying he was fighting special interests, but in fact he was entertaining them and taking their money.

Why would a decent Republican want to appear with Chris Matthews? He's a flaming liberal and not worth our attention.

They (liberals) try so hard to appear "fair and balanced" by throwing an occasional bone to conservatives.

I guess in KENYA they didn't get her statement...>>> hehe, that's because she never made it!

Actually, the wording of her statement may not be exactly what the Kerry campaign staff would prefer....
