Also, it doesn't pay to investigate: if you have exculpatory evidence to the extent that it virtually exonerates the accused, you're gonna be told that you have to arrest anyway.

LOL I guess speds today are a bit different than when we were growing up. I think most are less physically challenged than we remember. Instead, I think they are more often than not the younger criminal element, as this girl has so aptly demonstrated.

If you're driving the get away car and your fellow conspirator inside the bank shoots and kills someone, you will be charged with murder too! They won't do that, based upon the popular theory that such action will prevent actual victims from coming forward.

Even then, in my state, eg, false report of ANY crime is a misdemeanor offense.

And the parents have done what to correct this wrong doing? They should be held responsible for monetary damages this man has or will likely occur. They should alsoput their faces on the front of the papers and on the news to publicly apologize.

Charge the girl and her accomplice as adults. Give them the same sentence the victim in this case could have received based on their false witness. Give them a fair trial and a fast hanging.

Actually, I think the appropriate punishment would be for her to spend the rest of her life in prison, which is the same fate that awaited the man she falsely accused. THAT would be justice.

And I think that her parents should be forced to take out full-page ads for a full month (paid for with THEIR own money, of course) in every newspaper that originally ran the story besmirching the poor teacher's name stating exactly what happened, and that their family member lied and falsely accused the teacher. The ad should feature a picture of the false accuser. Harsh? You bet. Expensive? Well, her family can mortgage the house. But it would serve as a very harsh example to others.

Special ed these days encompasses a wide variety of disabilities & levels...could be mental retardation, ADHD, physical problems, emotionally disturbed....no telling.
