February 16, 2004 -- KAPPA Beta Phi, whose motto is "we sing, we dance," should now be changed to "we sing, we dance, we smoke" - after recent published reports outed the esteemed society's blatant disregard for Mayor Bloomberg's silly smoking ban, and in his presence no less.

It looks like eventually, bars will be allowed to have smokers, and will be allowed to be open after 1 am. Great! But this is exactly how things used to be, only now you'll have to come on your knees before the state regulatory boards and pray they see fit to issue you a waiver.

Sounds like this was a dream of big government types... raise state revenue through the issuance of permits and waivers, and gain more regulatory concessions from the bar and restaurants.

How could the bar and restaurant owners have possibly thought letting the state clamp even more regulations on them would be a good thing? Hope they're happy.

Actually most didn't, they were conned by the power of the antis claiming business would improve because all of the non-smokers who never went out because of smoke would come running to fill their businesses.

Of course that didn't happen, but by the time that became apparent, the antis were no where to be found - they had already left to go onto their next target.

In spite of all the anti-France feelings last year,Paris is looking better and better to me.

Why the hell should I spend my vacation dollars anyplace where I'm not wanted.

I will travel only to cities(I love old cities)in the USA where I can smoke, even in coffee shops.I know Paris is pretty smoker friendly and may not have as many self righteous non smokers as you would find here in the USA.

I really get on the bandwagon with this subject,so forgive me,all of you. Let the owner of the business decide on smoking,period.----Keep the government out of my face!
Now that I've got that off my chest I'm going to have some coffee and a smoke.---HEAVEN!!!!!!!!

We need to keep hammering this home! The more people who read it, the more will wake up to what is happening. A lot of people don't smoke, and they could care less, or just aren't interested enough to learn the truth about what is happening.

We try and try to warn them.
