Brinkley Details Kerry's Meetings with 'Hanoi Jane' (Hanoi John and Jane are both liars!)
Newsmax ^ | 2/15/04

Posted on 02/15/2004 9:29:47 AM PST by areafiftyone

Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley revealed Sunday that Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry personally met with "Hanoi Jane" Fonda at least twice during the days when the two played leading roles in the group Vietnam Veterans Against the War, including a never before detailed 1971 meeting in Detroit.

"The Jane Fonda incidents occurred in two places; one on a march from Morristown to Valley Forge when they shared a platform at Valley Forge," Brinkley told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg.

"Then he met her in the more troubling Detroit Howard Johnson's Comfort Center [event], where there was this thing called the Winter Soldier Investigation."

It had been known that Fonda and Kerry had both helped organize the Winter Soldier protest at a time when he served as the VVAW's National Coordinator and she held the title Honorary National Coordinator.

But Brinkley, who wrote the definitive chronicle of Kerry's war years, "Tour of Duty," is the first authoritative source to suggest that Kerry and Fonda had a face-to-face meeting while organizing the event.

Brinkley's account of Kerry's contacts with Fonda suggests they had a much more extensive relationship than either of them are now willing to admit.

The activist and the top Democrat both offered accounts last week that minimized their contact during the 1970s, with Fonda describing efforts to link her to Kerry as part of a "big lie" campaign to discredit the presidential front-runner.

Of the Valley Forge protest, Fonda told CNN, "I don't know if we even shook hands."

For his part Kerry said through a spokeswoman, "John Kerry and Jane Fonda were just acquaintances."

During Winter Soldier Fonda and Kerry solicited testimony from alleged combat veterans detailing U.S. atrocities, though many of the accounts were later completely discredited.

The Kerry campaign has refused to return multiple phone calls from NewsMax requesting details of the Senator's interaction with Fonda during the Feb. 1971 Winter Soldier event.

On a related subject, Brinkley said that Kerry's Vietnam war wounds, for which he received three Purple Hearts, were not particularly serious.

Asked about the severity of Kerry's injuries, Brinkley told Malzberg, "They were minor wounds."

You are so right what he did when my brother was still there fighting is what matters to me. My brother did 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. And Kerry spent 4 months and came home protected and he want us to believe it did not hurt the SOLDIER still fighting there. Its no wonder he had nightmares after Vietnam. John McCain said they used Kerry's protecting against our POW's. You are so right when say Kerry is a turn-coat.

"The way to defuse the story is to attack Kerry. Hard. Somehow put Kerry on the defensive. "

I disagree. Attack the accusers, not necessarily Kerry. So Kerry’s behind it? Until that’s proven to America, a Kerry attack will only confirm the fence sitters’ questions that there may be something to it and that we need a distraction. We’d be the aggressors.

Attack the vicious allegations and accusers now, and attack Kerry’s record once he calls for civility. It’s a simple one two punch, a two step process. Anything else that I’m aware of is a bad decision.

The doctored photo of Fonda with Kerry is unfortunate, but it still illustrates an actual event.

So that makes him guilty of what?

It's such a shame to think that you don't take advantage of all the resources available at FR. I hope you'll take the time to at least read these two items:

William F. Buckley's June 6, 1971 West Point Commencement Address

VIETNAM WAR VETERAN JOHN KERRY'S TESTIMONY BEFORE THE SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE, APRIL 22, 1971

Can somebody just fast-forward my life to next December-PLEASE?

You can do it yourself. Just take a break from FreeRepublic until after the election. If it troubles you so, perhaps an island vacation would be a good remedy.

Are you even reading my posts?

My 30-year-old questions of the Viet Nam war, the same questions McNamara mouths today, are somehow countering my clear and forceful backing of Bush?

Read post 120. My point came across to some.

Curtis:
1.) Regarding the events of 30+ years ago: Any goodwill Kerry might have had due to his war time activities he squandered when he returned to the US and stabbed his "Band of Brothers" in the back. Bush did not go to Vietnam but at least served in the National Guard. By the way, did you support Clinton? Do I have to go into what HE did again?
2.) Your concern about the federal budget deficit is very ironic. Let's see, spending money on so-called "entitlement" programs, not provided for in the Constitution is what has the federal government in red ink, not defense spending. The latter is one of the FEW functions of the federal government specified in the Constitution and the latter is what has failed and LED TO 9-11, thanks to the left.
3.) Your concern about dead troops is touching. This has been one of the most successful campaigns in US military history and leftists like you paint it as a failure. Something tells me that there would be a very large grin on your face had US deaths numbered in the 1000's or 10000's. Your logic also fails. Since murder rates are high in several US cities (eg., Detroit, Miami), why don't people just pull out of those cities so innocents won't get harmed.
4.) When Kerry's voting record is dissected, it will be all over for him. He voted against adequate funding for intelligence gathering, funding for the war effort in Iraq, raising the pay of military personnel, etc. Explain those positions for me.
5.) You may want to ask yourself this question: Can we really trust the defense and security of this country to the leftist Democrats??? I'm no big fan of Bush given his proclivities to spend like a Democrat but at least his priorities on defending this country are in order. Remember, it was, primarily, the failures of the Clinton administration that led to 9-11. Don't you guys on the left EVER learn from your mistakes???!!!

From my friend an exNavy Chief (NOT THE WRITER OF THIS LETTER)

Open Letter to John Kerry:

My wife had rotator cuff surgery earlier this year, and the recovery is terribly painful. Then, she developed a staph-epi infection, and they had to cut the same scar open and operate on her again. Just thinking about the pain and anxiety of facing that painful surgery a second time in the same wound, makes me cringe. That experience, however pales in comparison to what I am going through right now, in my heart.

The old hurts are surfacing and the feelings of betrayal by fellow citizens, and their leader stirring them up, are breaking my heart again. I am being cut in the same scar. How did we who served in Vietnam suddenly become cold-blooded killers, torturers, and rapists, of the ilk of the Nazi SS or the Taliban? Most of us were American soldiers who grew up idolizing John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and all the other heroes. That was why I volunteered. But for political expediency, John Kerry has rewritten history, again. After spending only four months in the country of Vietnam, John Kerry testified before Congress in 1971 with these exact words about incidents he supposedly witnessed or heard about from other vets: "They personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam."

I was a green beret officer who volunteered for duty in Vietnam and fought in the thick of it in 1968 and 1969 on a Special Forces A-team on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, just for starters. We were the elite. We saw the most action. Everybody in the world knows that. But we did not just kill people, we built a church, a school, treated illnesses, passed out soap, food, and clothing, and had fun and loving interaction with the indigenous people of Vietnam, just like our boys did in Normandy, Baghdad, Saigon, and everywhere American soldiers ever served. We all gave away our candy bars and rations to kids. Our hearts to oppressed people all over the globe. Sure, there were a couple bad-apples, but I saw none, and I saw it all, and if I did, as an army officer, it was my obligation to stop it, or at the very least report it. Why is there not a single record anywhere of you ever reporting any incidents like this or having the perpetrators arrested? The answer is simple. You are a liar. Your medals and mine are not a free pass for lifetime, Senator Kerry, to bypass character, integrity, and morality. I earn my green beret over and over daily in all aspects of my life.

Eight National Guard green berets, and other National Guard soldiers, have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and you totally dishonored their widows and families by lumping National Guard service in with being a draft-dodger, conscientious objector, and deserter, just so you can try to sabotage the patriotism of our President who proudly served as an Air National Guard jet pilot. I have a son earning his green beret at Fort Bragg right now, and his wife serves honorably in the Air National Guard, just like President Bush did, and I am as proud of her as I am my son. I volunteered for Vietnam and have no problem whatsoever with President Bush being our Commander-In-Chief. In fact, I am proud of him as our leader.

John Kerry, you personally derailed the Vietnam Human rights Bill, HR2883, in 2001, after it had passed the House by a 411 to 1 vote, and thousands of pro-American Montagnard tribespeople in Vietnam died since then who could have been saved, by you. Earlier, as Chair of the Senate Select Committee on MIA/POW Affairs, you personally quashed the efforts of any and all veterans to report sightings of living POW's, when you held those reins in Congress. You have fought tooth and nail to push for the US to normalize relations with Vietnam for years. Why, Mr. Kerry? Simple, your first cousin C. Stewart Forbes, CEO, of Colliers International, recently signed a contract with Hanoi, worth BILLIONS of dollars for Collier's International to become the exclusive real estate representative for the country of Vietnam.

"Hanoi John," now that it works for you, you beat your chest about your Vietnam service, but to me, you are a phony, opportunistic, hypocrite. You are one of those politicians that is like a fertilizer machine: all that comes out of you is horse manure, and you are spreading it everywhere.

Medals do not make a man. Morals do.
