[history]
Nobody wants to raise this puzzling but important question.
The single most puzzling -- and arguably most important -- question of the day is the one no one raises in public: Why have we not been attacked again?
We are coming up on two and a half years since Sept. 11. Think back: On Sept. 11, everybody was waiting for the other shoe to drop -- within days or weeks, but surely within months. When nothing happened, it was said that al-Qaida works on 18-month cycles, with long planning and preparation.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.

And you do what? Say what? or stand for what?
To: chuckwalla
Don't mean to imply you need illumination. LOL No problem. What I'm really looking for is enlightenment but some illumination along the way would be just fine. ;~)
I've heard of The Art of War before but confess I have yet to read it. You inspired me to do a search and I found the text on-line here

Because al Qaida is so frightened of JOHN KERRY that they are terrified that he would be elected President and REALLY get tough on them. So they have held off."
Perhaps Kerry will fight them for four or five months and then bug out on a technicality?

I believe that we have not been attacked again because we so aggressively attacked Al Qaida in Afghanistan, virtually wiping them out there. Then we went on to Iraq and virtually wiped out the regime of Saddam Hussein. All of this on account of 9/11. No wonder nobody wants to attack us again.
Thus, this sets up the "Bush paradox." By being so tough on terrorism, Bush opens himself up to massive criticism for waging unnecessary wars and being sort of a loose cannon. Yet had Bush not conducted these two wars, it is very likely that we WOULD have been attacked again, and then he would be accused of not doing enough to stop terrorism - which would have been fatal to his 2004 campaign, as even Republicans would have deserted him at this point.
We will never know what horrible attacks were prevented because we responded so forcefully after 9/11. Just like nobody would ever know what carnage was prevented had Hitler been assassinated in 1933. In fact, the assassin of Hitler in 1933 would have gone down in history as a murderer rather than a savior of millions of people.
I fear that Bush may be doomed to the same fate due to his strong response to 9/11. Due to no subsequent attacks, his actions against Afghanistan and Iraq will be perceived by history as an "overreaction."
Well, I for one, appreciate what Bush has done, even though he is unlikely to ever get credit for it.

Why Hasn't America Been Attacked Again?Because every 85 year old school marm or WW II veteran carrying either nail file or nail clipper has been checked out and terrorist weapons personal effects eliminated through stringent airport security...
Mexican border security?? A Russian MIG could be wheeled in without detection.
