Mexico favors Webb spot for 5th bridge (Texas)

The Mexican government has sent official correspondence to the U.S. Department of State on the proposed new international bridge that Webb County and the city of Laredo are vying to build.

The diplomatic note reportedly favors the site chosen by Webb County, county officials said Thursday.

This official correspondence, dated Feb. 3, is the first of three requisite diplomatic notes that must be exchanged between both countries before an international bridge is built, Raul Casso, chief of staff to County Judge Louis H. Bruni, said Thursday.

It was sent to the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C., and is expected to be delivered to the State Department in the next few days. It is the first time that Mexico takes an official position on the proposed new border crossing.

"We are pleased that the Mexican government has provided official notification to our federal government and is interested in our proposed "Puente de la Unidad," Bruni said in a prepared statement.

The county and city are competing against each for a presidential permit, despite warnings from federal and state officials that both entities should unite and figure out an arrangement for constructing and operating the bridge.

Known to the city as the fifth bridge, the county refers to it as the first international bridge, or "Puente de la Unidad."

According to county officials, Mexico's diplomatic note explains the Mexican government has made this determination due to the emergence of a sponsor in Mexico, who is interested in developing the project.

Do you think that would be a good spot to start an invasion of Mexico?

Look where the entry points for the Mexico/South American land transportation grids are..... The flow into the heartland will be through Texas..... Included are long range plans of the Trans Texas Corridor system

I was just getting ready to post that link!

I thought I was the only one who kept passing it around. It seems that people see the proposed "AZTLAN" routes and never think about the implications.

We always start at Vera Cruz with a second invasion on some point of the Rio Grande (see War of Texas Independence, War of 1848, Pershing Expedition, and various Marine landings).

Why in the world would we want to do anything Mexico thought was in their interest? This is surreal, looney tunes time.

see War of Texas Independence, War of 1848

The Texas Revolution was in 1836. It was the Mexican-American War that occurred in 1848. I'm quite familiar with both. My current position is less than a quarter mile from the spot where General Zachary Taylor first camped south of the Nueces River.

Actually the Mexican-American war started in 1846 and ended in 1848 with the treaty of Guadalupe Hildalgo negotiated in 1848.

Re: "(see War of Texas Independence, War of 1848, Pershing Expedition, and various Marine landings)."

Each point was offset by a comma, never intended to mix up Texas Independence and Texas Statehood, forbid it! I've heard it spoken of as the M-A War, or The War of 1848, don't know which is used most often. Still, War of 1848 is easier to write out.

My mother-in-law says it's been raining down in the valley for days. You all must be happy to see the drought leave.
