I literally work across the street. The Fire Alarms went off, but there wasn't any visible smoke.

People are now going back into the building. Much ado about nothing--this time!

Great map you linked.

Off topic: I notice the Ford Building, which is where the truly damning evidence against Clinton was held, is as far away from the capitol as you can get. Very symbolic of how the senate abdicated its responsibility to review the evidence prior to the vote to expel Clinton.

Been having a pretty rotten day

Try flipping through the big news channels trying to find something on this. So far I've seen fluff pieces on Valentines Day, a clip of Denny K. playing the Dating Game on Leno, and Wacko Jacko stuff ad nauseum. Glad I'm paying for these "hard news" stations.

There's your explanation... Kennedy, suffering from an extreme case of whisky goggles saw a manatee off the coast and mistook it for a mermaid. "Chicks!" he thought, and drove in to meet them.

Oops! Series, I know.

That's good news. Had it turned out to be something series, isn't it ironic that we all would have found out first here.

ARE they adjacent buildings, connected by hallways or tunnels? Far apart?

Dirksen and Hart are basically a single building. Dirksen's walls on the eastern side were pierced to open it to Hart. The curiosity is that the floors don't align properly. The hallways connect but you have to walk up or down a half flight as you enter the other building.

1:00PM: Indices continue to trudge along near their worst levels of their day amid a virtual dearth of buying interest... The latest pullback coincided with reports a Senate building was evacuated after a fire alarm was pulled... The cause of that alarm, however, appears to a bagel that was burned by an intern... This fact has not mitigated the intensity of the selling drive as traders continue to reduce exposure ahead of the holiday weekend...

Except on the basement and ground floors, where they align ok.
