I give up...

>> As for this being a troubled time, we've seen worse. The Revolution, 1812, Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam. If you weren't of military age during any of these, you have nothing to say about times of trouble.

I served during the Vietnam War. Fortunately for me my billet was needed in the Indian Ocean, so Thailand was as close as I got to Vietnam. All of the wars you mentioned were terrible, indeed, but none were close to the peril we face from WMD's. If I recall one of my college classes correctly, the smallest suitcase nuke would weigh less 25 pounds, and would be the size of a large briefcase. Some biological agents, the contagions, are possibly more threatening. Both biologicals and chemical WMD's are easily disguised and distributed. If not stopped this will be like no war mankind has ever experienced.

If you are indeed a Vietname era vet, then you grew up with nukes pointed at you for your entire life. Dispite your overblown rhetoric, and even if a dirty bomb goes off somewhere, you are far safer than any generation that ever lived. There are nations that, in our lifetime, have lost more that ten percent of their populations to war and political murder. Twenty-five percent in some cases.
