[history]
The Texas primaries are set for Tuesday, 9 March 2004. The U.S. Congressional districts in Texas have been significantly altered due to the re-districting battle last year. One heavily altered district is TX-10 which stretches from the western suburbs of Houston to Austin. Since the current office holder (Lloyd Doggett-D) is running in district TX-25, this is one district that many expect to switch from Democrat to Republican.
There are eight (at-least) GOP candidates for this office. Most of these candidates have little name recognition, and many people voting in this race were in other districts for the 2002 election, this thread is started to help gather and share information with fellow voters. Web-sites for the candidates are linked in alphabetical order.
Candidate web-sites are linked in alphabetical order. Chances of a run-off (to be held Saturday 3 April) are high, since it is unlikely anyone will get 50%+1 of the votes; we will deal with any potential run-offs later.
John Devine
Pat Elliott
John Kelley
Mike McCaul
Dave Phillips
Ben Streusand
Brad Tashenberg
Teresa Doggett Taylor

Even though its late in this primary season, you should keep those questions handy for the next time. In 2 years I would like to see more FReepers run for office, even if they end up being ballot squatters for the Constitution Party =o)

Do you think you'd run for office again??Haven't thought about it very much but I might given the right circumstance but I'm a FIRM believer in the old Ronald Reagan addage that "There is NO limit to what you can accomplish if you don't CARE who get's the credit."
I want my COUNTRY back!

I'd never vote for myself so I am out... but I think it would be interesting to get FReepers to run for office in larger numbers. Like I said, even if they just get to be ballot squatters for the Constitution Party or even running as a Republican in a district thats 90% Democrat.
it would be fascinating on this site too.... they all come to certain threads and compare notes about their campaigns...

If you can, please correct the link to Streusand website.
It is
http://www.streusandforcongress.org .
You have Phillips linked twice, once with Streusand's name.
Otherwise, thanks for taking the lead, as usual.
See you March 1 in Katy.

The only inside scoops that I know of are about Tashenberg. The personal reviews that I have gotten on him are fairly favorable. I am friends with people who have known him for a while and they say that he is a good guy. His personality doesn't change whenever he gets drunk. Thats very important!!!

Why do people need to know all of that stuff?
I can guarantee that everyone differs on all of those subjects. We come together as a group of people who want to defeat democrats.

I just got back from a meet-the-candidate dinner for Ben Streusand. Lots of good discussions, he did not duck any questions, and every answer was as conservative as you could ask for.
Pro-life
NRST tax
Pro business
Privatise social security and much more of Fed as soon as possible, but not in such a 'Ron Paul' way that he angers all the other congresscrooks,
Pro 2nd Amendment RKBA
Self financed campaign
Not a former democrap
Anti illegal immigration
NOT A LAWYER NOT A LAWYER NOT A LIEYER
Not a BushBot on Immigration and Fed spending
Word is that this will be a 2 man race, Streusand and McCaul
McCaul is a LAWYER.
McCaul is a bud with John Cornyn, author of the Illegal immigrant amnesty plan.
Sorry Drew, but for HAT chapter, this is our Harris Co. guy, while McCaul is the Travis Co. guy.
I am pretty damn critical of politicians and candidates,
and I think this is the ONE, the Neo. Nice guy, nice wife,
I found out also about a meet many of the candidates event on Tuesday 2/24 at 7:00pm near 1960 / Cutten Road area.
I will get an address, ping me if you want it.

Thanks for the reportand the ping!
As I have previously said, I do not live in the 10th district and thus cannot vote in this race but if I could Ben Streusand would get my vote.

Oh I hear ya...I'm just unfortunate some of us can't vote in that district to help out...
I think for the most part Streusand's got the best chance if you do the research...He should do fine as that districts Rep...
But I have my own concerns about what actually happens to people who get elected (regardless of political leaning...Notice I didn't say party affiliation) and what happens after they get up that way...Not a pretty sight...
But you have to hope for the best, and when they stray a little, give em hell...They should be thankful that some people give a rats enough to do even that...And should feel bad when they do catch heat...But then again letting them know they did something good is always an attention getter as well...
Later,
Steve

http://www.freemarket.org/portal/pdf/South.pdf He's wearing conservative clothes, but he ain't no conservative.
As the Free Market Foundation's questionaire I linked shows, he is 'undecided' on whether there should be a law 'protecting sexual orientation'. He supports funding for the NEA. He also thinks government financed child-care is a good idea.
On a Brownwood radio show, when a caller asked him about Sandra Day O'Conner's view that 'international law' supercedes American law, he agreed with her.
In one of the debates, when asked a question about the Federalist Papers, he didn't know what they were. I'm serious.
'Health of the mother' exception on abortion, too. Sheesh. The leftwing's favorite poison pill for any and all pro-life legislation.
And he is also pro-amnesty.
And he's arrogant to boot. As if DC wasn't already well over its quota of hubris.
Bill Lester is solid gold, and his credentials are unmatched.
We can use every bit of help in the 11th...this thing is within reach.
Whoever wins on March 9th is highly likely to be the Congressman for at least the next ten years.
