Texas is more into football, although it was pretty funny to steal two Yankee pitchers in recent months. Youse guys were more upset than Houston fans were happy.

I made that exact same trek several years back. People were incredulous when I told them that El Paso was the halfway point between Houston and Los Angeles. More non-Texans were surprised by that factoid than Texans. ;)

I think that Texas is an adorable little state. In California, we think of Texas as like our little sister.

Texas is coming along nicely, I think. ;-)

That's the reason there's that old country song, "Lookin' at Texas in my rearview mirror"

Actually, it was "I thought happiness was Lubbock, Texas in my rearview mirror.", a song by Mac Davis. Having grown up in Lubbock and a short career in Hollyweird, the song was about believing that we'll be happier "if only".

In Mac's case, he thought he'd be happy anywhere but Lubbock, and he really thought Hollyweird would make him happy. He discovered that that wasn't the case.

Another interesting fact that more people fought at the Alamo from the states of OH, KY, TN, AL, and many other states, than people from the TX Teritory (If I remember right, that number was 3). So TX you are welcome. Your ability to join the US was paid for with the blood of NON Texans.

Actually, these men who died for Texas were immigrants to Texas. The fact that they were born in other states had no bearing on what they became.

If you think about it, in the U.S., we all came from somewhere else first (except the Native Americans). That's doesn't mean that we're not all Americans now.

Yes, some men came just to fight in this war for Tejas indepedence, but they did so with the intent on becoming Texans, and are considered so by their current day Texas brothers.

All 3 of the Texican's who were "from" Tejas were of hispanic descent. They were fighting for Texas independence, just like the guys from Tennessee.

There were also people from other countries, including England, Germany, and others. The fact is they left their place of orgin in search of a better life.

Kinda makes you wonder why so many Tennesseans gave their life at the Alamo. (Tennessee is the state from which the most men came who died at the Alamo). Better to die at the Alamo than remain in Tennessee?

God Bless them all. They were immigrant Texans, but they were Texans, if in spirit only.
