The Hill - Photos of the Year ^

Look closely at the photos - just below Colin Powell, and to the right of Al Sharpton, you will see one of the hundreds of "anti-war" rally posters that had been plastered to lightboxes throughout the city.
The photo had been taken after the DC Chapter's stealth "Truth in Advertising Team" had made their rounds one evening.
The team of four, led by a former military PsyOp expert, made several late-night missions onto the mean streets of DC to place the stickers. We would go out one night and hit all the boxes around Union Station, the Capitol, Supreme Court, and even International ANSWER HQ, only to find our stickers pulled off the next night; so, out we'd go again - more determined to spread the truth about who was aiding the "anti-war" movement.
We widened our area of operation to include posters placed on 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th Streets, H Street (along Lafayette Park), K Street, North Capitol Street. We could tell, as the week wore on, that we were really rankling the lefties, because they were tearing the heck out of their own posters in an effort to remove our expertly affixed disclaimers!
We had covered so many of their posters that they were unable to keep up with us. There were several areas where our stickers were never removed.
One night as two of our team worked along K Street, we passed two lefties going in the opposite direction who were carrying a bucket of paste and flyers. We went back to that area later, to "further elaborate" on their messages.

We had a blast doing this, knowing that it would feed the paranoia of the ANSWER lackeys, and rightfully raise questions in people's minds as to who was behind the so-called "Peace Movement."
A recommendation to anyone who may want to do similar guerilla actions in their towns - never do this alone.

The idea quickly caught on with concerned citizens in other areas of the city, too.
One day as I drove through the American University neighborhoods (scouting other posters that needed "clarification") I saw that somebody had already gotten them, with their own version of the same general message. They had pasted half-sheets of paper with the Saddam message over the ANSWER rally posters on campus.
That was very satisfying to see.

Great work! Does DC have a law against posting bills on public property? (I am asking about the ANSWER posters, not yours!!)

ANSWER will be back, perhaps to a city near you, on March 20, 2004. They plan to hold demonstrations across the nation (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Washington, DC -- to name a few) and throughout the rest of the world as well.
The DC Chapter plans to be on the streets to once again counter the anti-war, anti-American messages of the groups coming to DC and to SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.

I was surfing around the web today, looking for information about another possible Freep opportunity, and came across the photo in The Hill. I couldn't believe my eyes!
We never told anyone about the action, for a number of reasons; and I always just thought of it as a personal satisfaction kind of operation. I am thrilled to see that it was noticed by someone - and even more thrilled to know that it was published in The Hill and delivered to the desks of so many Hill folks, both on our side and the opposition. :-)

As we finished placing a sticker on one ANSWER poster that was pasted on a 16th street bus shelter (across the street from the AFL-CIO HQ) a guy walked up to wait for a bus. He read the sticker and busted out laughing! With that we changed our plans of stopping for the evening and trudged on to the next posters down the block, with a spring in our step!
