I need a little help going through this and finding the BS in it. Apparently they are implying W was receiving military discipline at the time he was "missing" from his Alabama unit, receiving his points while in a Military discipline paper unit. I want to believe this is total crap so I need a little help working this out. I don't understand the total workings of the Guard, units, etc. Any help is wanted.

I actually sent this to a friend of mind who served as an officer in the AF reserve and he claims that this is one reasonable interpretation of what could have occurred. Granted he is not a solid Republican so he could have been just trying to get me to be down on the President.

I've been in the Guard since 1998. I've never heard of a "discipline unit", or any other such BS. Guard units fall under the Governor of each state. The state doesn't have the resources to fund "discipline units". Instead, the most likely action is to kick the bum out with an other than honorable discharge. I served in the active duty for 13 years before going to the Guard. The Guard and the Active Duty have completely different rules with regard to how you serve your time. It is more or less impossible to go "AWOL" from the guard, unless you are on active duty orders. This whole story is a non-issue, just like it was in 2000 and when Bush ran for Governor. It is an attempt by the Dem's to divert attention away from Kerry's treasonous behavior after his four month stint in Vietnam.

It is more or less impossible to go "AWOL" from the guard, unless you are on active duty orders. I've been wondering about that. What would have guard service been like? Was it a weekend a month, a certain number of days a year, or be on call?
To: Madame de Winter
Yes to all of the above, but a lot depends on your job in the Guard. A pilot has certain flying requirements to accomplish each month and depending on the weather, maintenance, the training schedule, etc. may be at his unit more than a week each month, or maybe just a weekend. Other individuals may only show up one weekend each month. But you don't get paid unless you show up. So Bush's pay records are as accurate a record as you are going to get of his attendance.

Thanks- I see Fox has the documents on their site.

thanks all. this makes sense. there's nothing to any of this. the only thing I can see actually being factual is that perhaps Bush was a slacker. Whupdofriggindo. Certainly pales in comparison to draftdodging, burning the US flag in Moscow, protesting after you served (thanks Kerry,) etc.

I don't post much anywhere, not just here. It seems I only get interested in this stuff around election time. Not enough time. I post a lot at a college football fan site (hornfans.com) in their "politics" page and when it gets a little sickening for me I seek refuge here with people who see things a little clearer. I saw this blog thing posted there and thought I'd seek some help here. Hope that helps.
