Were there any light moments in this interview? It came off as incredibly heavy and dark to me.
I was multitasking heavily at that time, intending to tape the interview (which I did) and review it later, as FNS begins at the same time as MTP here and ABC's no-name program (w/Steponallofus) beginning 1/2 hour later ...
I don't recall much levity from what I did absorb at the time. Russert must have doubled-up on his coffee intake prior to the interview ...
If you're referring to the Bush/Russert interview, yes!
Russert asked Bush whether he, Bush, could "accept" a fundamentalist Islamic authoritarian state emerging in Iraq. Bush answered that that was not going to happen, and to illustrate it talked about a conversation he had with a free Iraqi leader, a man who'd lost dozens to relatives to Saddam Hussein. The Iraqi leader said that he was committed to a government of full religious tolerance -- and, Bush added, "he's a Shia fella."
My spouse and I almost fell off the sofa laughing!
Not out of disrespect, mind you.
It was just a Texas Moment, kind of like the one where he said "International lawwwwww? I'll have to call my lawyer..."
