I am not an expert, but most predators will avoid a fight, since an injury usually means death. But there is no way one dog could defend against a wolf pack. The dogs would have to have sufficient numbers to feel secure in standing their ground say 1 dog to 2 maybe three wolves. If the biggest pack had 16 fighting members (not pups) then 6 dogs would do. My guess, but dogs do not need to win the fight, they just need to be strong enough to prevent a fight.
