MATTERS OF LIFE AND DEATH Painkillers for aborted babies? Lawmakers consider bill to relieve 'terror and suffering of children'

A bill is gathering support in the Virginia legislature that would require unborn children be administered a painkiller before abortions are performed.
A measure introduced by Republican Dick Black will be considered by the justice committee of Virginia's lower chamber, the House of Delegates, Monday, reported WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. The Senate will address a similar measure Thursday.
"We must do everything possible to relieve the terror and suffering of children as they are aborted," said Black in a statement.
The plan, which applies to abortions performed after the 12th week of pregnancy, would bring criminal charges to any abortion doctor who does not administer the painkiller.
WRC said the bill has support in the Virginia General Assembly, with more than 50 delegates and 15 senators acting as co-sponsors. Most of the sponsors are Republicans, but there is bipartisan support.

Huh--novel approach. Since it does not restrict a woman's access to abortion, it's likely to stand up in court.
You can regulate an abortionist to wear pink pinstriped pajamas if you pass a law saying he has to--so you can require him to administer an anesthetic to the fetus.
And the law makes quite a statement.
How, rhetorically speaking, are the pro-choicers going to fight this one?
Can't come up with an argument (anticipating their objections) for their side that doesn't sound ghoulish.
Go for it!

It makes sense.I think this is a stroke of genius. It does bring home the violence to a baby when aborted..It gives those ,who refuse to look at what actually occurs, a lesson in reality.

But how can this be? I thought it wasn't life. If it isn't life than it can"t suffer, can it? But on the other hand, if it can feel pain than it must be alive, right? Than if its alive, than ITS MURDER!! No way out of this one.

The argument against it will be as follows: This can not be allowed because then it will put thoughts into the "mother's" head that if the "fetus" can feel, then it is a baby and therefore alive. This cannot be allowed, afterall, it is just a clump of cells. This may cause guilt on the "mother's" behalf and that she may indeed be committing murder and then where would we be? Oh yeah, helping an innocent child be born, heaven forbid.

Total agreement with what you wrote.
I just feel like I'm in a time warp - where we are worrying about giving pain killers to a baby about to be aborted.
This is so crazy -- words fail me.
If anyone thinks about what will happen to the partial birth abortion ban if a Dimbocrat is elected, the irony is that more babies will die, but executions of convicted criminals will stop. If anyone has their priorities wrong, it's Dims. Kill the babies, save the criminals, give all the illegals citizenship.
I'm moving to Hawaii if a Dim is elected. Out there, you don't hear much about anything happening on the mainland, and if it's a blue sky day, and surf's up, who cares about the nutty things happening "back home".

Stroke of genius. Stop the terror and pain of the CHILDREN being aborted. If nothing else the language forces people to invision the pain and terror of aborted babies.

The whole point of the legislation--loud political statement through bitter irony, irony through written statute and regulation.
I don't see how the pro-aborts can stop this one--there are laws in place to treat livestock humanely...

If this law passes, why not change the word "abortion" to EXECUTION?
