Love That Dare Not Squeak Its Name

Roy and Silo, two chinstrap penguins at the Central Park Zoo in Manhattan, are completely devoted to each other. For nearly six years now, they have been inseparable. They exhibit what in penguin parlance is called "ecstatic behavior": that is, they entwine their necks, they vocalize to each other, they have sex. Silo and Roy are, to anthropomorphize a bit, gay penguins. When offered female companionship, they have adamantly refused it. And the females aren't interested in them, either.

At one time, the two seemed so desperate to incubate an egg together that they put a rock in their nest and sat on it, keeping it warm in the folds of their abdomens, said their chief keeper, Rob Gramzay. Finally, he gave them a fertile egg that needed care to hatch. Things went perfectly. Roy and Silo sat on it for the typical 34 days until a chick, Tango, was born. For the next two and a half months they raised Tango, keeping her warm and feeding her food from their beaks until she could go out into the world on her own. Mr. Gramzay is full of praise for them.

has anyone else raised an eyebrow about the CONVENIENT "timing" of this story?
i wonder if the gay penguins are for civil unions or marriage?

you know what my problem is with the gay marraige issue, not so much as homosexual couples having an official way to commit themseleves to one another....its that i can forsee the pinko leftists trying to implement an "affirmative action" regarding child adoption for married gay couples. their "rationale" would be something like "well they can't have their own ... so it's discrimination not to give them first rights"

the enemy within, indeed

Don't worry, I'm sure the NEA would be more than happy to fund your "artistic expression" of crap throwing ; )

So I guess this article is telling us that these penguins perform anal and oral sex on each other?

I think not.

The behavior manifested by these animals is not even close to the debasement and abominable behavior practiced by the "human" sodomites.

Two male penguins hanging out together and sitting on eggs is vastly different from Steve and Greg fisting each other and sticking flashlights up their backsides.

More propaganda from the deviants to justify their evil.

RANT OVER.

Roy and Silo sat on it for the typical 34 days until a chick, Tango, was born.

Just proves that it still takes two (sexes) to Tango.

Buzz!!! Bad pun abuse!:)

It has been reported that during a Robert Byrd expedition to Antarctica, a female penguin tried to put a move on one of the male humans. A part of the mating ritual is supposedly for the female penguin to place a small rock at the feet of her chosen one. One aggressive female penguin waddled up and placed a stone at the feet of one of the male humans.

Fortunately, we're told he didn't take it seriously.

"One aggressive female penguin waddled up and placed a stone at the feet of one of the male humans."

Now that's just desperate.

Yes, but are they insisting on the right to be married?

The NYT won't be content until we're all acting like a bunch of Bonobo monkeys.

Reminds me of a great penguin joke. Punch line: "No, no, it's just ice cream."

So now we know that the redefinition of marriage esigned, engineered, and foistered by
the New York Times' Anthony Lewis-Marshall bedded with the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts,
was based upon two gay Central Park Zoo penguins and their ecstatic behavior.

Paging Howie Carr. Pagin Howie Carr.

Mr. Bagemihl is also wary of extrapolating. "In Nazi Germany, one very common interpretation of homosexuality was that it was animalistic behavior, subhuman," he said.

Gee...I'm surprised that the author had to throw in a reference to Nazis. After all, anyone opposed to homosexuality must be a Nazi.

I've used a similar analogy before when rebutting the "animals are 'gay', so it's natural" argument.

I once saw a monkey eating its own feces at the zoo.
Does that then mean that humans should mandate feces eating, too?

No, but neither does it refute the statement that, since it occurs in nature, it is natural.
You neatly destroy a question that wasn't asked, ignoring the one that was.  Then
you go on to add another contention, ie, mandating behaviour of others.

The correct analogy would be that schools would be required to put feces on the school lunch menu.

Really. But to play it safe, house the penguins FAR away from the Gerbil Exhibit. . .

(Couldn't resist. . .and frankly, didn't try hard. . .)

My brother had a dog who was a legsexual. I'm telling you, that dog never saw a leg he didn't like. Hmmm...maybe that's the case for beasiality in nature. I know my dog has the hots for my mother (no accounting for taste). She's just really sexually attractive to him for some reason.

I just wonder if Roy and Silo would exhibit this behavior if they were back home on the ice flats of Antartica.

Mark my words, they'll be pushing for lowering the age of consent after they get the marriage issue settled.
