Makes one wonder how many OTHER nascent killers are "in the system," but out among the public.
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - The body of an 11-year-old girl whose abduction was captured by a surveillance camera has been found and a mechanic has been charged with her murder, officials said Friday.
Sarasota County Sheriff Bill Balkwill refused to say where Carlie Brucia was found, saying it is an active crime scene.
He said Joseph P. Smith, 37, has been charged with her murder. He is believed to be the tattooed man in a mechanic's shirt who was seen in a car wash surveillance video leading Carlie away by the arm Sunday evening, authorities said.
Horrible news. Prayers for her family.
Body Of Sarasota Girl Found

Police confirmed Friday that the body of Carlie Brucia was found off Interstate 75 in Sarasota.
Sarasota, Fla., officials made the announcement at a 7 a.m. Eastern time news conference.
Reports indicate that her body was found behind a church in Sarasota located just off Interstate 75. CNN said Friday that police reportedly discovered DNA matching Carlie in the station wagon of suspect Joseph P. Smith.
Brucia is a Florida sixth-grader seen on the a car wash surveillance camera's being led away by a man Sunday.
An unemployed mechanic with a criminal record has continued to refuse to answer questions about the whereabouts of the 11-year-old girl he is suspected of abducting outside a car wash in range of a surveillance camera.
South Florida authorities said Thursday that "strong evidence" links 37-year-old Joseph Smith to the Brucia's kidnapping. The man is seen talking to the girl, who doesn't appear to know him.
Meanwhile, investigators in Sarasota, Fla., say NASA's attempt at enhancing images of a child's abduction has not been that helpful.
Sheriff's officials say the quality of the enhanced images is not much better than the originals.
A sheriff's spokesman said photos with additional enhancement by the space agency would not be ready before Friday for possible distribution to the public.
Authorities believe Smith is the tattooed man in a mechanic's shirt on the tape, but he has not been charged with a crime. He was taken into custody on a tip from a woman who lives with him and is being held on unrelated charges.
"He has not been formally charged, however there is no bond on the unrelated charges that we have on him," Sheriff Bill Balkwill said. "Formal charges will be filed at the appropriate time as we continue to build our case for prosecution," Balkwill said.
The sheriff's office received more than 400 leads from citizens.
Investigators are searching for a pink backpack Carlie was carrying when she disappeared and urged TV stations to continue showing images of Smith's car, a Buick Century station wagon.
"We are certain that the '92 Buick station wagon that we have is the vehicle used in the abduction," Balkwill said.
Law enforcement officers say Smith, who has been convicted previously on felony drug charges, is not cooperating with authorities in Carlie's disappearance.
The girl's whereabouts are not known.
Balkwill asked the media to be careful because there are many rumors about the case.
State records show that Smith has been arrested at least 13 times in Florida since 1993. He was arrested in 1997 on kidnapping and false imprisonment charges -- but was acquitted a year later. Other arrests range from misdemeanor battery to felony drug possession charges.
Smith's Neighbors Surprised By Arrest
Smith's neighbors, Ron and Linda Thompson, said they're shocked by Smith's arrest, but concede that the man seen on the videotape looks like him. They said he has children and is always "great" with them. Linda Thompson said that Smith has never shown a dark side.
Members of Carlie's Girl Scout troop passed out fliers and pink ribbons Wednesday. One of them said, "I don't feel too good about this, knowing my best friend is out there with a stranger."
Carlie, who is about 5 feet tall and 120 pounds, has blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a red top and blue jeans, and carrying a pink backpack.
A national hot line has been established to gather information. Two experts from The Center for Missing and Exploited Children are assisting, distributing 16,000 flyers with Carlie's picture throughout the region.

Tebrugge considers the death penalty "the worst possible government boondoggle." He came in 4th out of 4 candidates in a 2002 run for Circuit Court judge. His primary goal was to be "punctual", followed by "hard-working, decisive, and treat all persons with dignity and courtesy."
his website (tebrugge4judge) is a porn site--no kidding!
Probation officers have consistently tried to get Smith into drug treatment programs.
In 2000, after he was caught passing a fake prescription for painkillers, a DOC probation officer asked a judge to spare him prison, calling the violation ``an isolated act of desperation.''
When Smith tested positive for cocaine, one of a half-dozen tests he failed last year, his probation officer didn't send Circuit Judge Harry Rapkin an arrest warrant, as many DOC officers do for violations, Rapkin said.
Instead, she wrote Rapkin that Smith was getting drug treatment at a local nonprofit center.
``It basically said, `Judge, this happened - we're taking care of it,' '' Rapkin said. ``I said, `OK, fine.' ''
I don't presume to speak for G-d, but I suspect he will.
