Kerry disses Guard
John Kerry slipped in a shiv Tuesday night when asked about President Bush's service record. He seemed to lump those who joined the National Guard with those who didn't serve - and that could backfire with Guard vets.
"I would defend the President's choice with respect to going into the Guard," said Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran. "I've never made any judgments about any choice somebody made about avoiding the draft, about going to Canada, going to jail, being a conscientious objector, going into the National Guard. Those are choices people make."

Yes, Kerry did a few months in Nam before bugging out based on several superficial wounds. This is what Kerry has had to say about his "fellow" American soldiers:
"... they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country..." http://www.evergreenreview.com/kerry/kerry2.html

"Since Tuesday, the general has been riding in the "love bus," which got its name from its carpet, a flat-screen television and cable channels." If this bus is a rockin', don't come a knockin'.

Enjoyed your ode to the 28th Division. You might have included the 29th, 30th ,36th , 45th in that as well. We are up against jackasses who have not heard of WW2 . I do say this is a major slam at the Guard and I'd like to think the heroes next door and their families will be outraged enough to put a cork in Kerry's ketchup.

Yup, John Friggin' Kerry may have finally shot himself in the foot. Rove should be parading out war hero National Guardsmen to slam Kerry for these remarks.

Let's hope so.The American public is sadly clueless about a good bit of this. Ambrose, do you recall when the Big Networks and all the rest of the Lamestream pres was crying about the poor, over worked National Guard? Now, how do they square those bleats with this wholesale slander? I know , a rhetorical question, they'll just ignore their past statements.

I thought Terry McAuliff was just clueless,he's always shooting off his mouth..but Kerry comparing the Guard to fleeing to Canada is truly terrible.

Within the context of the Viet Nam War (which I count from 1959 to 1975, or 76, or even 77 when there were still guys dropping dead from it's effects, or even up to 2004 since the last shots that need to be fired have not yet been fired), joining the National Guard was a way to evade the draft.
It's one of the reasons today's National Guard is a way to get a trip to Iraq.
Folks who come in here and post nonsense about how Kerry is trashing the Guard need to review their history, and maybe talk to someone who was 1-A in 1966, 67, 68, or thereabouts. The Guard might have been a nice institution filled with nice people and then Lyndon Johnson and the arch-criminal McNamara turned it into a way to get out of fundamental military obligations.
Then, too, John F. Kennedy had trashed the institution of marriage by allowing it to be used as a vehicle to evade military duty.
Nothing I like more these days than to see a married National Guardsman going off to combat leaving his wife and 2.756 kids behind. A bit more of this stuff and the smell of betrayal ought to finally be blown off.
However, none of that should be taken as any reason to further delay McNamara's war crimes trial!

Let's wait until he has the nomination, OK? I'm sure Rove is taking notes.

This may be the lowest blow the John F'ing Kerry campaign could try. He is grasping for anything he can to take potshots at President Bush. What a scumbag.
