Man Acquitted of 9/11 Charges [Judge: Trial hurt by U.S. refusals on evidence]

Hamburg, Germany - A Moroccan man accused of helping set up the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, was acquitted yesterday by a Hamburg court whose chief judge said the trial had been seriously complicated by lack of access to intelligence agency files and al-Qaida members in U.S. custody.

Defendant Abdelghani Mzoudi was found not guilty "even though intelligence services may have information against him," chief judge Klaus Ruehle said. "One of the main problems in this trial was that it was not possible to get files from intelligence services."

Mzoudi is only the second person anywhere to be tried for an alleged direct role in the attacks, which killed more than 3,000 people.

Prosecutors say he gave logistical aid, such as money transfers, to members of the al-Qaida cell that led the attacks of 2 1/2 years ago.

He faced charges of membership in a terrorist organization and 3,066 counts of accessory to murder, carrying a maximum penalty of 15 years' imprisonment

First - Glad to back on FP after a very long absence.

The hypocrisy in this case is unbelievable. The Germans refused to extradite this guy to the US to face charges on crimes he commited against the US - and then complain that the US doesn't cooperate with sensitive intelligence information in order to try and sentence him on very minor charges which would prevent the US from trying him on our own!!

It is likly that he will be extradited to Morocco, and then the US, where he can finally be tried for his despicable crimes. We can only hope that the German courts don't prevent his extradition on the grounds that he might be passed on to the US (where that evil DP awaits this guy). It wouldn't surprise me if they did . . .

Only in Germany can a person receive 8 years in prison for killing then eating a man or receive 15 years in prison for the murders of 3,000+ people.

Why bother helping Germany when they hand out pathetic sentences like that? I'd rather see his released then have our intelligence services snatch him up to Gitmo or arrange some sort of "accident" that takes his life.
