Growing frustration over President Bush's immigration plan and lack of fiscal discipline came to a head behind closed doors at last weekend's Republican retreat in Philadelphia.

House lawmakers, stunned by the intensity of their constituents' displeasure at some of Mr. Bush's key domestic policies, gave his political strategist Karl Rove an earful behind closed doors.

Never mind the man behind the Halliburton curtain.

Wow. Is there no DU talking point "true conservatives" will not use against this administration?

The onyl thign that grates on you is that I don't cut backstabbers of YOUR persuasion any slack. How dare I have the gall to not have a dobule standard? How DARE I disagree with the self-appoitned arbiters of what is and what is not a conservative position?

hchutch, you're all about cutting yourself a double-standard when you explain over and over again how it's OK for you not to vote for Warner when he's the nominee, but if anyone else fails to vote for a GOP nominee for whatever reason suits them, they're indirectly voting for a Democrat.

If you hold that the only valid reason to withhold your vote for a nominee is betrayal of the party, then the party itself has become your supreme political value. Fine, we're both in the same party, so I don't care why you usually vote Republican. The value of your vote is not determined by the values that motivate it.

However, other voters may have different supreme political values. Their line in the sand might not be your line in the sand.

So, accept that, and do what you can to hold the coalition together.

I submit, however, that badgering, silly flames about posters' screen names, and random melodramatics are probably not going to get it done.

You keep butting in with inanities. Either say something of value, or keep quiet. This is now, the reality is that fringe parties are either irrelevant or spoilers. Not a one, on the right, is going to become the " new "/replacement for the GOP in '04, or anytime in my lifetime.

"The value of your vote is not determined by the values that motivate it."

To whom?

At what point does the pursuit of somebody's vote override the values that motiveat the vote?

When do we hang up the flashing red light?

There's NO Perot, there was NO lesson taught in '92, and a lot of voters are morons, stupid, selfish, and will vote Dem.

OTOH, though I am NOT overconfident, I do think that the president will be reelected.-)

What aren't we arguing about?

We are discussing how deeply we should be expected to French-kiss liberals in order to win in November, basically.
