Growing frustration over President Bush's immigration plan and lack of fiscal discipline came to a head behind closed doors at last weekend's Republican retreat in Philadelphia.

House lawmakers, stunned by the intensity of their constituents' displeasure at some of Mr. Bush's key domestic policies, gave his political strategist Karl Rove an earful behind closed doors.

And how would indirectly electing John F. Kerry to the office of President of the United States change things?

Why do you avoid that question?

I'm still waiting for one of these pricks to say: "How can we, in good conscience, vote for pork in our home disctricts when we can't afford to properly equip our troops in the field? No new stadiums, no new libraries, no new highways, and no prescriptions drugs until every soldier has the proper equipment!"

In my dreams....

Yep now is the time to get LOUDER!

If it works, I'll vote for Bush again. If it doesn't work, I'll be voting 3rd party. End of story

If y'all aren't willing to vote for the GOP--and the record TO DATE says that you aren't--then the GOP isn't willing to waste its resources on your issues.

Since hchutch has written in Ollie North instead of John Warner the last two times, my voting percentage for GOP nominees is higher than his.

You were saying?

How does indirectly electing John F. Kerry to the office of President of the United States advance the cause of conservatism?

Still tearing down that strawman, eh? LOL.

Why do you avoid that question?

Why did you indirectly vote for Democrats when you wrote in Ollie North?

I'm not avoiding it at all, it's an excellent question and stands on it's own. How would things change? Can't tell you, I can't see into the future and neither can anyone else. At best all anyone can do is speculate. I'm not supporting Kerry nor will I.

But it does bring up an interesting thought. Would the house and senate with republican majorities be more or less likely to support the liberal agenda of a democrat or a republican? With what has been passed so far I think we already know what the answer is on the republican side the question then is would they be acting the same way with a democrat in the white house proposing the same things?

"But then this was supposed to be a no-holds-barred discussion, and our constituents are upset."

As well they should be!

Thank God for the conservative Republicans.

"I want to know if honest debate about immigration is welcome, or if the Tancredo-Malkin line on that issue is going to be for Free Republic what "abortion rights" are for Democratic Presidential candidates: A litmus test. I'm beginning to suspect it the latter is becoming the case, and I'm not sure I like it."

I can tell you from personal experience that JimRob's view on this issue is far closer to yers than to my preference that we enforce the immigration laws of this nation, so I really doubt there is any sort of "litmus test" against the Pro-DeIllegalization fer Illegals folks.

Having John Kerry as co-Commander in Chief with Kofi Annan is not an interesting thought, IMO. It is one devastating to the defense of the US.

I wasn't aware that Kerry and Kofi were both running as candiates for co-president.

It would seem unlikely since Kofi is foreign.

I don't think Rove and bush should take the blame. Congress passed the things. But they are aware of our anger so that is a good thing.

I want to know if honest debate about immigration is welcome

We've been having an honest debate, and you've been losing.

The forum, the party, and the nation are opposed to you and President Bush's Amnesty for Illegal Aliens.

But, you're honestly welcome to continue to spit into the wind.

Kerry would basically cede foreign policy authority to the UN. That's a big demo tenet, but what the hey you think Bush is more dnagerous than Kerry according to your rhetoric.

Dissent is good. Dissent adjusts policy. But it stops at the water's edge.

"I support the rightmost candidate who is viable." WF Buckley

A timeless truth. You may get Bush's ear and adjust policy. Whose ear in a Kerry administration will you get?

Re: Spending, it is already to late to balance the budget ever again. The drug entitlement, medicare, social security and interest on the debt are just to high. We are going broke and 2 of the 4 budget busters have GOP finger prints all over them.
