I hope the parent who PAID for those supplies showed up at the school the next day with receipts and explained that either the supplies will be returned or the money will be reimbursed.

Get the book "What Ever Happened to Penny Candy?". It is an EXCELLENT book to teach kids (7th grade and up) about REAL economics, why socialism/communism will NEVER work except from the barrel of a gun, and how the Rats who think that raising the taxes by 100% would result in a 100% increase in revenue (the law of action and reaction and why static analysis is completely wrong).

To be honest I dont think the daycare situation applies since the property wasnt taken away to be given to others it was only withheld.I can understand why they wouldnt want to have the one kid having candy. As for the school supplies it is denying the kids to learn how to take care of their stuff and learn how to share. When i was in school we always shared stuff if your buddy was out of paper he could "borrow" a sheet from any of us. now kids are learning if your buddy doesnt have something instead of you helping him out just wait for the Govt to do it. liberals love to quote Jesus about feeding the poor but, they miss out on the part where he said for us to do it not pass legislation to do it.

Last year my daughter started Kindergarten at a charter school. The list of supplies cost 30.00 (including baby wipes, Clorox desk wipes, 3 bags of candy and Tissues). She was accepted to another, closer charter. We were again given a list totaling 35.00 including all of the above, juice boxes and snacks. Three children came mid-year to this class and did not even bring pencil boxes.
This year we started with the same list. I got my daughter the new cool eraseable colored pencils and put her name on every one. I told the teacher that they were hers and no one was to take them. The teacher didn't know what to say.
When we made the decision to homeschool before Christmas, I was in the class for the party. Six of her eight colored pencils were in the Community Box (the name was scratched out).
Between the other children in the classes and the Greek school that used the class at night (and borrowed the student's supplies), I figured I spent 150.00 for the two years.
Now we have a giant box of crayons and six #2 pencils for both girls.

When I was a kid in Pennsylvania, it was illegal for the school to require the students to bring their own supplies because some parents might not be able to afford them. In public school, everything was supplied by the school. Even field trips were fully funded or not permitted.

no offense, but I've spent a lot of time in Public Schools and I have never seen a teacher demand that all school supplies become everyone's property. If this is really the case, I'd appreciate it if anyone on this board could post the name of the school and the year it happened. please, let's get some details and not just this overly emotional blather. If this is the best arguement anyone on this board can make against public schools, it's not wonder we can't win the fight to save our children's educations.

You're about to take the most precious thing in your life and turn it over to a government that, at some level, you know to be completely incompetent, for an education.Complete BS. A vast majority of our citizens have public educations and we are the most productive and wealthy nation in history. Public education is not perfect but it is not as bad as the "Teacher Bashers" make it out to be. There is a very simple solution if you don't like public education. Send your children to a private school. Can't afford it? Whose fault is that? You made your choices. The people who bash education are people who complain about everything. It makes them feel better about themselves. They are usually very lonely people.

Got this in Email today.....
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, but her father was a staunch Republican.
One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to high taxes and welfare programs.
He stopped her and asked how she was doing in school. She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA, but it was really tough. She had to study all the time and never had time to go out and party. She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying. On top of that, the part-time job her father insisted she keep left absolutely no time for anything else.
He asked, "How is your friend Mary?"
She replied that Mary was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied, but was very popular on campus, didn't have a job, and went to all the parties. She was always complaining about not having any money, but didn't want to work. She often didn't show up for classes because she was hung over.
Dad then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's office and request that 1.0 be taken off her 4.0 and given it to her friend who only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a respectable 3.0 GPA. Then, she could also give her friend half the money she'd earned from her job so that her friend would no longer be broke.
The daughter angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair. I worked really hard for my grades and money, and Mary just loafs. Why should her laziness and irresponsibility be rewarded with half of what I've worked for?"
The father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

I learned very sadly today that you aren't exempt in a Christian school either. The kids have a new teacher(our old pastor was called away and his wife was the former kinder teacher). She is just out of college(a Christian college) and she just started this garbage. She's decided that some kids are running low on markers and crayons so she is taking ALL of the kids things and putting them in one big box. She's asked various parents to contribute some new things and she would too.
Don't worry, she is coming back home after this year. Why not sooner? Circumstances don't allow it, but she won't be going back so we'll start homeschooling again in the fall.
