She hasn't been officially found dead. The Police Press Conference just proved that.

In my younger years I used to decry "taking the law into our own hands." But as an adult and as a parent, and in a case like this, I'd like to see swift vengance. I want there to be a deep, cold, terrible fear in the mind of anyone who would even think of committing such a crime.

If true, this perp (and all child killers) should be subject to Taliban-style torture before his execution.

Cops: No Help From Fla. Abduction Suspect Add U.S. National -
By MITCH STACY, Associated Press Writer
SARASOTA, Fla. - The suspect linked to a missing 11-year-old girl whose abduction was captured by a surveillance camera is not cooperating with investigators, authorities said Thursday.
Joseph P. Smith, 37, is not answering any questions about the disappearance of Carlie Brucia, who has been missing since Sunday evening, Sarasota County Sheriff Bill Balkwill said.
"We want to know where Carlie is," Balkwill said.
Smith was taken into custody Tuesday on a probation violation charge unrelated to the disappearance. A telephone tip led authorities to link him to the car wash's surveillance video.
He has not been charged in the disappearance but remains jailed without bond in the probation violation.
"We have strong evidence that he is in fact the perpetrator," said Capt. Jeff Bell, the lead Sarasota County sheriff's investigator on the case.
Smith has been arrested at least 13 times in Florida since 1993, according to state records. He was arrested in 1997 in Manatee County on kidnapping and false imprisonment charges, but was acquitted a year later. Records also show other arrests ranging from misdemeanor battery to felony drug possession.
Smith's car, a Buick Century station wagon, was being combed by investigators for clues. A home he had recently lived in was cordoned off with yellow police tape and several paper bags, presumably holding evidence, were carried out by investigators. A body was not found, officials said.
Carlie's stepfather, Steven Kansler, was among those who visited the cordoned-off home. He was visibly distraught as he left there late Wednesday night.

horrific news!
there was a report yesterday I think about a man in kissimee (?) who thought he witnessed a female with a red top having a fight and trying to get away from a man. He saw the man chase her but wasn't sure if she was caught. He went home and then saw the video/news about this girl.
I haven't heard more about this story, so I'm unsure if it was related but my stomach turned hearing it - because if I saw a public situation like that I would've fired up the cell phone and at least phoned it in....you never know, and it might save a life.

Joseph Smith...most likely not an illegal.

Do not go past go, do not collect your 200 dollars, send him straight to the chair.
We need to start making examples of these creeps, in horrific ways. My daughter is ten and I have a bad habit of superimposing my daighter's face with the face of whatever child is missing and I get myself in a killing mood.

It doesn't make sense that the 9:00am press conference states they are still trying to locate Carlie. They may suspect she is dead, but she has not been located. This story is not true.

mean looking man. How can the parents bear knowing this was the last face she saw. We protect our children and want them to know kindness and goodness and then something like this,,I cannot begin to fathom what the parents are going thru.

--I wouldn't be in such a big hurry to believe this. Wait until it has been verified. It wouldn't be the first time a tv or radio station "jumped the gun".--
I agree that many times they jump the gun. This story has a name to it. If this is a false alarm, there will be serious repercussion. Paul Castronovo is a DJ on a sister station and has granted permission for his name to be used as a source. His mother is a friend/neighbor Carlie's family. That said, I understand why the mods pulled the original thread. That's why I called to confirm. If need be, this thread can be pulled and I will not be upset. I am far more angry and upset about this poor girl's abduction/murder than I can describe at this moment.
May she rest in peace.

Carlie's stepfather, Steven Kansler, was among those who visited the cordoned-off home. He was visibly distraught as he left there late Wednesday night. Pure speculation on my part, but perhaps he saw some of Carlie's clothing, or a piece of jewelry, or something that he knew to be hers.
Another sad story.
