With Howard Dean out of the race for the Democratic nomination what is he to do next? What would "Josiah Bartlet" do?
If Dean really believes that the Democrat Party run by the Clintons is not sufficiently ideologically pure should he not continue the fight by helping a party that is anti-national defense, against corporations, anti-free market and favors eco-crazyness? Fortunately for Dean such a party already exists. The Greens!
With the Democrats doomed to defeat this fall in preparation for a Hillary run in 2008 it provides Dean and the Greens a chance to go all out with a candidate already well known, with a base of internet/MoveOn.orgers, to provide much needed funding, a third party run seems a natural progression for an unemployed doctor.
Advantages for Dean if he goes Green. 1) established party, making ballot access easier than it was for a John Anderson or Ross Perot. 2) Organization. Though small most states have some kind of Green group. Throw in the "true believers" from the net and Dean at least has some people to man the phone banks. 3) He is finished in the Democrat Party. Dean owes nothing to the Clinton/Kennedy crowd currently fighting for the Democrat Party purse. In fact it might be sweet payback for the way Dean seems to believe he was treated by the party establishment. He could make the Democrats go..AARRARGGGGHHHH for a change. 4) He could get enough of the vote to allow the Greens to tap into the public purse for the foreseeable future.
Ralph Nader would step aside for such a national candidate as Dean and it would also open up the possibility of getting a well known celebrity for a running mate or maybe some extreme left Congressman i.e. Kucinich to run with Dean. A common problem for third parties in the past has been to find two people foolish enough to run. Dean would solve that problem. Dean/Bartlet 2004 has a nice ring to it.
In any event, this is an interesting question I have not seen asked of Dean or even mentioned in the national press. I would like some Freeper thoughts on this.
Dean is egocentric enough. He also has pretty much been given his way through most of his life. He won't take no for an answer. He also sees himself as the exception to the rule. The Deaniacs will support him in large numbers, especially the Hollywierd bunch, Soros, move-on.org, etc...
He may get threats from the DNC because they know he will be a major spoiler if he runs.
At any rate, PLEEEZZZ Howard! GO GREEN!
You might try looking at it this way: one of the few products America still can sell internationally is our politicians and bureaucrats. And let's face it --it's real land-rush seller's market!
Want to be a millionaire? Get elected to a State Senate position.
Want to be a deci-millionaire? Get elected to the US House of Representatives.
Want to be a centi-millionaire? Get elected to the US Senate.
Want to have three vacaction houses, free cruises twice a year and your kid's college education paid for? Get a near director-level sinecure in a Federal Agency.
And that's mostly all "repatriated" money these days. The wonders of global business!
And I agree, too, MR. DEAN, DR DEAN, GOVERNOR DEAN should run for President on the Green ticket. Far better than a Nader, a Perot, an Anderson, a Roosevelt -- it's this age and Dean himself who has the best chance of forming up a viable third party.
And man do we need one.
