[history]
The Bush administration's new budget includes a $1.2 billion, 30-year loan to renovate the aging United Nations headquarters and build a new annex, although U.N. officials expressed disappointment that Washington will charge interest on the loan.
The loan was part of a $31.5 billion foreign-operations budget request released Monday that also includes major new funding for the fight against AIDS and a revamped U.S. foreign-aid program targeting poor countries that implement political and social reforms.

If he doesn't recognize that some of his handlers are communists, he needs to go and ask his wife about them. Women are much more perceptive than men when it comes to recognizing liars.

I think you're hostile because you just haven't fully accepted George yet.
George has a plan for your life.

The only renovations the UN needs involves a can of gasoline and a match.

The "renovations" will be similar to the "renovations" the Soviets made to our embassy building in Moscow back in the '80s.

Ahhh.. you're just a knee-jerk reactionary. Nope all I was doing was pointing out that the UN is acting like a spoiled child and is the organization that looks bad, but you all want to blame Bush, when it is the UN sticking their foot in their mouth.
You all may continue with your chest thumping morning coffee klatch.

Brilliant.

Hey I can handle people disagreeing with me, seems your ego can't take that.

Make sure you set the trees on fire too. Then we'll know for sure the building will burn to the ground. Nobody moves slower and in the wrong direction more than the National Interagency Fire Center.

It's a loan, to be paid back with interest, and the UN is acting like the little child, although you do seem to take lessons from the UN, IMO.

I like the cut of your jib, Mister.

We could get them to look even more foolish by loaning them tons more money! Uh no, you make them look foolish by them whining to have pay back the loan with interest, which they are doing.

Besides, the only way to advance conservatism worldwide is to make the UN look stupid. This must be part of his no money down American Dream plan.
Washington will pay out $400 million a year for three years.... As part of its assessed contribution to the U.N. budget the United States will supply 22 percent of that repayment figure $265 million on the principal alone.
A 22% interest free loan for the down with the interest on the remaining 935 Million not 1.2 billion ?...No.
So let's see, "assessed contribution to the U.N." is 265 million (a year?) we propose to "loan" them 400 million a year over 3 yrs...$400 million minus the 265 million "contribution" leaves a balance of $135 millon a year subject to interest.
Then as we always do with the flakes around the world when they default, we excuse the entire ($405 million, not $1.2 billion) debt...
