The Bush administration's new budget includes a $1.2 billion, 30-year loan to renovate the aging United Nations headquarters and build a new annex, although U.N. officials expressed disappointment that Washington will charge interest on the loan.

The loan was part of a $31.5 billion foreign-operations budget request released Monday that also includes major new funding for the fight against AIDS and a revamped U.S. foreign-aid program targeting poor countries that implement political and social reforms.

You 'think' he is supposed to be your personal president..he 'know's' he is the President of the United States.

You of course will make that same excuse for a Democrat president.

Exactly. It's all a necessary part of the covert conservative strategery.

Besides, kittens!

You don't hate kittens, do you???

2.4 billion dollars for the UN, would be twice as conservative.

(By the way, it just occurred to me: I think we paid our back UN dues. How hard would it be for the UN to apply the debt to our loan against the debt for our dues?)

STRATEGERY!!!

Laz, you've got it backwards, the only way to advance the UN worldwide is to make conservatism look stupid. That's what this loan would do. Loan our money to our enemies to defeat ourselves.

It's time to make another pot of coffee!

Also you knee jerkers, this is a great move.

Why is the knee jerk reaction for every GOP *uckup thought to be part of a brilliant scheme?

, was a "practical way to move forward" with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan's plan to renovate and modernize the U.N. headquarters. The loan to fund the U.N. Capital Master Plan still must win approval by Congress and the U.N. General Assembly. The world body must agree to accept the 5.54 percent interest rate.

I would be far more supportive of this, if they were going to build it in Jerusalem. Home of the 3 Major monotheistic religions, they could put some Palestinians to work, help to eradicate terrorism, and help solve the Middle East problems.... and I am sure Israel would cede the land....Or could it be that these over paid blowhards like the Manhattanite lifestyle they are so comfortably afforded.

I'm having a hard time thinking that all these ideas are coming from President Bush's brain. He's getting guidance from some real FREEdom in America haters.

I guess the $15 billion Bush sent to Africa for AIDs prevention wasn't enough. UN say developed countries are still to blame for Third Worlders inability to exercise restraint and not have kids you can't afford.

Maybe in the spirit of this new "compassionate conservatism", we should double our previous contribution?

You are the kind of person who would say he didn't mean to cut our throats when he was shaving our neck with the straight razor. It was an accident that needs to be worked out in the next term.

Keep on posting Ranch, with your hyperbolic replies like the one up above, you just show how much you are out of the mainstream and on the fringe.

we should double our previous contribution?

Exactly right.

If 15 billion wasn't conservative enough to halt the spread of AIDS in Africa.. then we have to be twice, or even three times as conservative.

Send 45 billion pronto.

It's the conservative thing to do, by golly..
