The Bush administration's new budget includes a $1.2 billion, 30-year loan to renovate the aging United Nations headquarters and build a new annex, although U.N. officials expressed disappointment that Washington will charge interest on the loan.

The loan was part of a $31.5 billion foreign-operations budget request released Monday that also includes major new funding for the fight against AIDS and a revamped U.S. foreign-aid program targeting poor countries that implement political and social reforms.

Actually that was in his 2000 platform, so you can't claim false advertising.
I seem to remember that he said he supported current laws and enforcement rather than adding new laws.

At the time he said that, "current law" with regard to the assault weapons ban was to sunset in 2004. If he supported the current law in 2000, he supported the sunset of the AWB.

Now he says he will sign a new law to extend the ban. That's clearly adding new laws, and he said he was against that in 2000. This "I'll sign it if it gets to my desk," is a definite flip-flop on the issue. He better hope the conservative Republicans in the Congress make sure that it never reaches his desk. If it does, and he signs it, he will lose the election in November in an upset.

What in the hell are you thinking?

The purpose of the UN is to take control of North America away from the United States!

And don't give me that crap about keeping our enemies close. This whore has the clap, crabs, and AIDS. Without the US donations the UN would die!

Now try and tell me the man in the White House is supporting the American people and we should reelect him BECAUSE he is a Republican. I wonder when we have ever had, or if we have ever had anyone in the White House who so openly worked against the U.S. Constitution. Loaning our taxdollars to the UN to build a new larger, better, more effective UN Headquarters! Is this the thinking of the President himself or Karl Rove and the Progressive Democrats guiding our President?

Keep going in this direction, President Bush and you will cause an uprising such as America has never seen. You need to get your damned Communist advisors off of your team or else you will be a cowhand come next January.

The citizens are not working to defeat you, Sir. You are working to defeat us and the US of A. with seditious moves such as this.

"All truth goes through three stages.
First it is ridiculed.
Then it is violently opposed.
Finally, it is accepted as self-evident."
(Schopenhauer)

Utah's legislators finally saw what has been self-evident to many of us for decades. Congratulations for curing the tunnel vison and taking off the horse blinders.

Hmmm. We pay the biggest portion of the UN's budget. Isn't this sort of like loaning money to ourselves?

True. As the ol' saying goes, "We loose a little on every deal ...

... but we make up for it in volume"

I feel like I'm watching a perpetual motion machine invented by the Comedy Channel. 'Cept there's nothing really funny about it.

Besides, the only way to advance conservatism worldwide is to make the UN look stupid.

By giving them a huge loan.

Y'see.

I say if he wants 1.2 billion dollars to pretty up the UN... then he should have it.

You're just one of those anti-Bush meanies.

In fact, I'm not sure giving 1.2 billion is enough.

2.4 billion dollars for the UN, would be twice as conservative.
