After screenings of the teen hip-hop dance movie "You Got Served," deputies got served a heaping helping of fistfights and other rowdy teenage antics over the weekend in Lancaster, Palmdale and the greater Los Angeles area. The movie, which opened Friday, has been critically panned, but scored the top film slot this weekend, earning about $16 million.
The movie features the hip-hop dance craze featuring members of the now-defunct boy band B2K.
After the 11:50 p.m. screening in Palmdale, a group of about 15 to 20 teens started making a ruckus outside Cinemark 22, said Deputy Rick Nolte.
Security alerted deputies but did not specify if they were experiencing a verbal or physical altercation. By the time deputies arrived, the teens had "faded into the woodwork," Nolte said.
A similar situation happened at one of the two movie theaters in Palmdale where a fistfight broke out, said Deputy Daryl Bonsall.
He didn't have details about the incident but said Palmdale has two movie theaters playing "You Got Served," including Movies 10 at the Antelope Valley Mall, and Movies 8, East Palmdale Blvd.
Managers Mike Rosenberger at Cinemark 22, Maria Garcia at Movies 10 and Wes Wheeler at Movies 8 declined comment about the incidents or other trouble they might have had related to the screening.
However, the Valley wasn't the only area where trouble erupted. Fistfights also broke out in other Southern California theaters.
Four males between 16 and 20 started a brawl outside the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach before midnight Saturday as about 600 people were attempting to exit the theater after the movie.
Police officers were forced to use beanbag guns and Tasers to quell the brawl.
A second large fight broke out in Lakewood Center Mall at 9:20 p.m. Saturday, but no arrests were made.
What's next? bad language and inappropriate sexuality at the Grammys? Bush bashing at the Oscars? What in H-E-double hockey sticks is this world coming to?
If that's the case, shouldn't they have settled their differences via a dance contest?
