Pa. Police Dog Suspended; Bit Black Child
ASSOCIATED PRESS
MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. (AP) - A police dog has been suspended while investigators try to determine whether the animal has something against black children.
The dog, a German shepherd named Dolpho, was cleared two years ago of attacking a child because he was black. But Dolpho was removed from duty on Monday after biting another black child.
Dolpho attacked a 14-year-old black girl on Jan. 28 during a crime-prevention demonstration at a school but did not break the youngster's skin. The girl's parents said a white student petted the dog without incident before he attacked their daughter.
In 2002, town officials ordered a two-month investigation to determine if Dolpho was singling out blacks while on patrol after the dog escaped from police vehicle and bit a 9-year-old black boy playing nearby. The dog was taken off duty, retrained for two months and returned to the force.
City Councilwoman Wanda Jones Dixon, who is black, complained about the dog in 2002 and renewed her request that the animal be retired from the police force or put to sleep.

Anyone else remember the scene from "Training Day" where Denzel talks about a dog trained to hate blacks?

Your dog looks like a little red X?
Wow, I can't wait to see it at the AKC championships on Animal Planet (check that you are posting full URLs).

I lived in a neighborhood that was about 95% black for 6 months. My dog who had never been even slightly mean became very aggressive. It turned out that while I was at work, the neighborhood kids came by to tease him, throw rocks and scream.
Also, I have noticed that many black people are afraid of dogs and thus give off the scent of fear which will make even the nicest dog a bit predatory. Unfortunately, in the poor black and latino areas the dogs are treated badly and used for protection...and they do that by making the dogs mean & aggressive towards people. Thus, all folks in those areas think all dogs are like that.....sad, but true.

Mine is Mocha Girl Dog (MGD) or just Mocha or food monster, or fat dog, or hey you, whatever you call her she will be at your hip ready to listen. I don't have any pics that I can post......I need to get some or it will be to late.
I recognized Shelly later in the thread, you sent me the agility info. I haven't checked it out yet, but I plan to when the weather warms up. In the meantime, I just keep trying to teach her new tricks. She loves to learn.
Give Shelly a big sloppy one from Mocha!

I had one dog that liked whites and blacks, but hated Hispanics. That's one smart dog to know someone's culture.

Not really. Culture controls diet, diet influences scent.

As I stated before, I have no problem with the issues the dog may be facing but I am trying to say there is a possibility for misunderstanding with his potential double meaning use of the word "coon" when describing a dog that does not like black people... I am not the political correctness police but I am stating that the poster is creating a situation where his meaning might be misunderstood....Sometimes the truth is also ironic -- that's the basis of humor, I think...

Two grins and a tail wag from Shelley to Mocha Girl Dog. (I have finally taught Shelley to "kiss" with just a tiny lick on the end of my nose - the full facial is just a little too much for me.)
I remember MGD now . . . agility info. Shelley and I moved to a Monday night class. There's a Lab in there that could be Shelley's twin sister, except she's black. They have a lot of fun together.

Now they work -- much nicer than that "little red x" breed.
I think I might have had a problem with the firewall at work.
What a darling doggie! :)

Thank you. She's my very first dog, and she's turned out great - much smarter and nicer than I deserve. Perhaps a little bit rowdier than your average Lab - that's her field trial breeding on her mom's side coming through. Her dad is an English conformation style Lab, and that shows in her head and in her substantial bone.
This is her dad, Can CH. Sumo's SimBra Black Bordeaux:

Wow -- very refined and dignified looking.
Many years ago in a past life (and a past marriage) I had a German German Shepherd (i.e. from Germany -- not like the way they have ruined the breed in the USA with back legs like tricycle wheels). She and her dam and sire had that same mein.
Labs are always cool -- and smart too!

"Dozer's" pic is really too dark for you to see him. He is such a sweetie - even though he's a working stud dog, he's a big baby and as affectionate as he can be. We also met his mom, who was bred in England, and his dad as well. All great dogs.

We've hijacked this thread, haven't we? LOL
Well, come one, come all, purebred (OK, dog of any kind [OK, animal]) lovers come and share your delight with your beloved companions, friends, puppies, kitties, iguanas, etc.
Well, I have to admit it has been a few years since I have had Yazmine (my and my ex's Shepherd). What I DO have is a 21-year old kitten (that is something like 107 in human terms) that runs the household. Her sister passed away about 3 years ago (at 18 which was still in her 90's).
One thing I think we can agree on is that heaven has our pets and that when they pass they become additional guardian angels to watch over us silly humans (who need their help, undoubtedly).
My preference is that my current Queen Of The House wait a few more years before she starts watching over me with her sister.
I hope and pray your baby stays with you for many many years to come.
