Hyperbole of the day. Celebrating Oprah Winfreys 50th birthday, on Fridays Good Morning America, co-host Robin Roberts proclaimed that she has changed the way Americans think of themselves and the world.
For the Picture of the Morning segment at the end of the 7am half hour on the January 30 show, Roberts played a clip from Oprahs syndicated program with scenes of John Travolta and Jay Leno saluting Oprah at her 50th birthday party during a taping of her show. Setting up the video, Roberts gushed: Well wishers from all over the world weighed in with birthday greetings for the woman who really changed the way Americans think of themselves and the world.
Oprah may have done some great things for daytime TV and her show is certainly more worthy than Jerry Springers, but has she really changed the way Americans think of themselves and the world?
What percent of Americans have even seen her show?

What percent of Americans have even seen her show?
Not anyone (most anyone) who works during the day.

Well wishers from all over the world weighed in with birthday greetings...Did she really use the term "weighed in" when speaking about Oprah?
To: FlyLow
so this is why the World hates us?

You know, I was just thinking about this woman today. I happened to click by and pause on her show, and listened for a few minutes....
What strikes me, is that she has totally deluded herself. Here she is, 50 years old and she really doesn't know anything! She lives her life as one big cliche after another. She gets her core beliefs from slogans she has read in books, or from celebrities she has talked to. She has no idea about real truths, because she has never mastered them. She has never matured, yet she THINKS she has. She is wise in her own eyes, and thus is a fool.
She has never made a commitment to a spouse or to children. She has never learned those important lessons of compromise, giving, loving unconditionally and totally putting the needs of another person before your own. Especially when you really don't feel like it. Instead she lives her life always putting herself first, focusing all her attention on how she feels, and advises everyone she comes into contact with to do so as well.
She may have all the riches in the world, but she is not really a success in life, which is very sad.

Get over yourself, lady.

Barf. This woman has done more to keep women down than help them.

Well said, tuckrdout.

Totally agree. Oprah is a self-absorbed snob who pretends to care about other people's woes so she can make herself look good.
On the other hand Oprah is vastly underrated as an actress; my VCR is worn out from watching her wonderful performance in The Color Purple.

What do you mean she has no man...she's had the same man for 18 years. What a horrible thing to say.

Harlan Ellison was right. It's nothing but a glass teat. Depressing but true, when the cynic is revealed as the realist.
