Howard praises Bush, Blair
02feb04
US President George W Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who've been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, have helped make the world safer, Prime Minister John Howard said today.
"I believe both of them made a strong contribution to producing in the longer run a safer world," Mr Howard told journalists in Perth.
"I am absolutely unconditional in my continued support for what they did, I have a great respect for both of them."
Bush and Blair were nominated for the prize yesterday by independent right wing Norwegian MP Jan Simonsen.
However being nominated doesn't mean much. Last year there were 165 nominations.

This will never happen. The Nobel Peace Prize only goes to tryants, and those who appease them. Oh yeah, and to known terrorists. Oops, I forgot. And communists.

Mine too.
(But look at the alternative... a Sydney westie who bashes taxi drivers? Ew.)
Right now though, I'm concentrating on kicking that smug fellow Beattie out of power up here in Australia's Sunshine State... (where oddly enough, right now it's raining!)

Oh, so you would have let the taxi-driver rob you, and meekly step aside saying "I'm not man (or woman) enough to defend my property"?
For those unfamiliar with the story, Australia's current Opposition Leader Mark Latham, once broke a taxi driver's arm in an altercation. However, what's not often referred to by cheap-shot opponents is HOW it happened.
Latham was taken by a taxi-driver on a trip which took _far_ longer, and cost _far_ more, than it should.
He refused to pay the excessive fee so the cab-driver stole his briefcase and ran.
In the ensuing chase, Latham crash-tackled the cab-driver, who sustained a broken arm.
Latham has a number of faults ... both political and personal ... but defending himself and his property should not be listed amongst them.
Sadim
(who will not, BTW, be voting for Latham - but who finds Howard's zero-tolerance drugs policy a turn-off)

I don't like all of Howard's policies either. (See me in the Smokey Backroom for more on the WOD and "zero tolerance"... as I completely agree with you there!)
But you'd have to put a gun to my head before I'd vote Labour.
And speaking of violence, there are better ways to solve problems than the "Latham method"...

?
Why not just take the cab as compensation? (well, take it to the nearest police station...)

"However being nominated doesn't mean much. Last year there were 165 nominations."True...still,the thought that a few lefties here and there are bound to burn out a bearing and/or blow a gasket over it at least lets you feel it isn't totally worthless.

He should have had a gun and shot the thievin' bastard!
