I wonder if Dean will get dissected by Russert again today like he did in June. Anybody remember this exchange?

Russert: Well, in 1995, when you were advocating that position, you were asked how would you balance the budget if we had a constitutional amendment...
Dean: Yeah.
Russert: ...calling for that, and this is what Howard Dean said. “The way to balance the budget, [Gov. Howard] Dean said, is for Congress to cut Social Security, move the retirement age to 70, cut defense, Medicare and veterans pensions, while the states cut almost everything else. ‘It would be tough but we could do it,’ he said.”
Dean: Well, we fortunately don’t have to do that now.
Russert: We have a $500 billion deficit.
Dean: But you don’t have to cut Social Security to do that.
Russert: But why did you have to do it back then?
Dean: Well, because that was the middle of—I mean, I don’t recall saying that, but I’m sure I did, if you have it on your show, because I know your researchers are very good.
Russert: Well, Miles Benson is a very good reporter for the Newhouse News.
Dean: Yes, he is. No, no, no. I’m sure I did. I’m not denying I said that. I have...
Russert: But you would no longer cut Social Security?
Dean: But you don’t—no. I’m not ever going to cut Social Security benefits.
Russert: Would you raise retirement age to 70?
Dean: No. No.

MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Former Vermont governor Howard Dean (D).

Wow, it will truly be "Meet the Depressed" this week.

Wow. ABC gets to read from the DNC script and hoist the DNC and their statements unrebutted.
Doesn't seem very fair, but it is their way.

Do the two shows, "Meet The Press," and, "Face The Nation," have a rule against having any republicans on them?

Look at the record:
Jan 4th:
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Retired Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark.
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Sen. John F. Kerry (D-MA).

Jan 11th:
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Sen. John F. Kerry (D-MA).
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Rep. Richard A. Gephardt (D-MO).

Jan 18th:
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Rep. Richard A. Gephardt (D-MO).
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Sen. John Edwards (D-NC).

Jan 25th:
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Retired Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark (D).
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Sen. John F. Kerry (D-MA).

TODAY:
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Former Vermont governor Howard Dean (D).
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Sen. John Edwards (D-NC).

Maybe I'm slow, but it sure seems awfully one-sided.

No suprise, though...

I don't care for Chris Wallace's tone to his interviewing David Kay. Referring to "bombshell" report and "Bush administration finally consenting to an independent commission". To me he sounds like a Tim Russert lite or Chris Mathews rather than a Tony Snow or Brit Hume.

What happened to Pat Roberts? Trent Lott instead?

Let's see how Lott and Rockefeller spin Iraq and the terrorist threats.

Dean: Most Governors seal records after leaving office because people who sought and gave advice thought it was confidential.

Oh, so he DOESN'T mind that Cheney had confidential talks with energy officials? Good.

***So, Right On Cue: (Just Like The Dem Senate Memo) Calls For An Investigation***

Today the memo plan began with Rockefeller's fawning performance on Fox news aided and abetted by Chris Wallace.....

As shown in the memo released showing a plan months ago, the democrats are rolling out the "memogate" right on schedule thinking the people won't remember the now famous memo, thankfully leaked by a democrat member of the committee offened by the corruptness of the memo...

With their minions out trying the old divide and conqure routine, the second front begins as orchrated by the clinton crime machine

TimmyR on MTP challenging Dean on his allegation that Cheney berated the CIA to provide evidence against Iraq. Dean is in full-throttle backtracking and sidestepping. Dean says 'a retired CIA agent' told him. Of course, Dean doesn't name names.

I'm posting my thoughts before reading anyone else's. Bush better get off his ass and address this intelligence issue or the press and dems are going to eat him up.

Folks we either have one of the biggest failures in intelligence history OR they lied to us. Just about 4 years ago to this day, I met Bush while he was campaigining in DE. I had an opportunity to speak face to face with Bush for about 3-4 minutes. Bush autographed a picture of my 10 year old son, with me asking him if elected to always do the right thing.

I am as troubled as never before with this administration and believe they need to get their butt in shape.

? ?this morning (listening to them is my patriotic contribution/ or call me a masocchist) I heard a caller refer to Paul O'Neill's book (the caller was a Republican, but) and just now 'reasonable' Juan Williams referred to O'Neill's book to justify something. I did not follow his argument.

Conclusion: DNC memo referring to O'Neill's book sent out last night or this morning.

Has anyone else watching other shows heard something similaer from the dem guests this morning?

The Chris Matthews Show: with Chris and his "guests" Cynthia McKinney, Nora O'Donnel, Howard Fineman, and Tucker Carlson. Now that's "fair and balanced" the "NBC way."

It's funny to hear Dean say things like "...they're wasting our hard-earned tax dollars" ...the "they" is Ken Lay or the Drug companies, etc...

But the people paying the taxes are in the upper brackets.

What he's concerned about is the redistribution of tax dollars isn't going where it's best for his special interests - but it is good for his propaganda.

FWIW:

IN DEPTH (C-SPAN2) Noon-3PM

Ken Auletta

I've been listening for the last 45 minutes or so. I'm not liking what this clown has to say; "I'm a journalist and author" attitude; arrogant and 'disguised' Liberal; kind of reminds me of the type of "Independent, Dispassionate" observer that NPR would bring on to savage the Pubbies in a calm, reasonable and unimpeachable manner.
