What Part Of "Illegal" Dont Americans Understand?
January 28, 2004
By Tom DeWeese
Which side one takes in the great debate over illegal immigration policy is a matter of values.
Do you treasure a strong, independent United States of America as the beacon of freedom in the world? Are you proud to live in a nation where personal liberty and free choice led to the creation of the highest standard of living and the best medical care in history? Do you believe in the free enterprise system? Do you believe in the rule of law, based on the Constitution, as the only way to protect your natural rights? Do you believe that the United States is unique among any other nation or system on earth?
If you hold these ideals as truth, then there is only one solution to illegal immigration. It must be stopped. None of the factors that distinguish the United States from all others can be preserved if this nation erases its borders and ignores its founding principles, primary among which is the rule of law.

He is a true patriot in the original sense of the word.

And illegal immigration is a threat to all these principles when the laws aren't enforced.

I've been thinking. Isn't it really the Congress that's to blame for allowing the love affair with Mexico's V. Fox to come to this?
Sure, W's President - but he's not King of the US. Aren't the wet noodle GOP'ers in the House and Senate really the ones to point the finger at? Take spending. The image of Bush as a drunken sailor comes to mind, but it's Congress who writes the checks. Of course the problem is that few in Congress has either a spine or any national pride at all.
That's the way our nation was set up and for this reason. Am I wrong?

but he's not King of the US Perhaps that's what the dynasty has in mind, buttressed by the support of compliant peons imported from a country that has never known freedom.

Excellent article. It pains me no end that there are so many people in both major parties---especially in the upper echelons---who have such crass disregard for the law and the will of the American people. There is absolutely no issue where that contempt is so evident and so palpable as on the issue of illegal immigration. To me, this is evidence that our political elites simply do not share our traditional American values, or have faith in our American form of government or way of life any more. And when there is such a gigantic "disconnect" between the ambitions of the political elites and the desires of the sovereign people, and on an issue--perhaps the issue--that will determine the continuing viability of our nation, I truly fear for the future of America.

The title of this article made me think of a segment on Hannity last night where Sean had a twerp named Sandoval from the San Fran City Council who claimed that "illegal immigrant" or "alien" was as offensive and proscribable a word as the six letter "n" word. He claimed that it was a "code word" for Hispanics, and he pulled out the usual arguments about restaurants needing illegals to wash their dishes, etc. The blank, "deer in the headlights" look on Sandoval's face was priceless when Long Island Fightin' Irish Sean told him he had washed dishes in restaurants for years when he was younger---sort of like a "OK, and your point is...?" LOL

I've washed some dishes myself.

Right and wrong. True about those in congress, but leaders set the tone and agenda. The president is also responsible for carrying out the Constitutionally-legitimate laws authorized by Congress. Defending our borders from those who do not go through proper procedures is something that he is responsible for.

I agree with your concern! Unchecked immigration is a breach in the "common defense" that the government is responsible to provide according to the Constitution.
At the very least the existing laws should be enforced in order to prevent dangerous individuals such as criminals, terrorists, or contagious carriers of disease.
