A low-tax message for Mexico

To grow and create jobs, business needs government to be reasonable. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger understands that and is working to make California's government less onerous to business and job creation.

He can encourage our neighbors in Mexico to do the same. He plans to attend the Border Governors Conference in New Mexico in August, which involves the governors of the states on both sides of the border. We hope he and his staff use the next six months to plan ways to use the conference as a platform to encourage Mexico to embrace Schwarzenegger-style reforms.

You know, reading all of that, I kept thinking - Hey, sure, you can be a guest worker. We'll just report all your income to Mexico so they can tax you.. After all, taxing them here would mean virtualy nothing; minimal wage earners tend to get back more in taxes than they contribute. Gotta love that Earned Income Tax Credit.

Unfortunately this article highlights the changes that will create a growing middle class in Mexico's future which will eventually trickle down to their underclass. I say unfortunately because we aren't being invaded by Mexico's middle class.

Is this strategy sound? Maybe in the longer run but it will not resolve our problems which will be in full bloom in just 15 to 25 more years if we don't make substantial changes in our national will to control our soverninty.

What would be more productive is to create an atmosphere in Mexico which forces their dozen odd ruling families to consider a dramatic redistribution of the country's wealth since Mexico is among the top 25 wealthiest countries in the world, yet ranks among the poorest 50% when gaged by the their national living standard.

Would we be a "good neighbor" if we worked to foment a social revolution in Mexico? Depends where you reside.

Mexico has a very large informal economy and an extremely low tax collection rate.

" Gotta love that Earned Income Tax Credit."

What a boondogle. How does anyone justify taking more than they paid in in the first place...that is NOT the definition of a refund. Most people do not understand that these people get sometimes 2 and 3 thousand dollars more than they paid each year. It depends on how many illigitamate kids one has.
