U.S. Arrests 29 Convicted Foreign Sex Offenders Thu January 29, 2004 04:51 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. agents on Thursday arrested 29 foreigners previously convicted of committing sex crimes in New York as part of an international crackdown on pedophilia, officials said. The offenders, mostly from Latin America and the Caribbean region, committed crimes in suburban Westchester County north of New York, including rape, sexual abuse, sodomy, endangering the welfare of a minor and sexual misconduct. Twenty-five victimized children.

They include a Mexican man who sexually abused his 4- and 7-year-old nieces, a Guatemalan man who sexually abused his girlfriend's 10-year-old daughter and a Peruvian who raped a 14-year-old girl, authorities said.

They were being held in detention centers awaiting deportation proceedings.

The Bureau of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said 20 were in the United States illegally and nine were legal permanent residents.

Last July, the U.S. government announced "Operation Predator" to protect children from pedophiles, Internet predators, human traffickers and international sex tourists.

Since then, 1,700 people had been arrested nationwide, the immigration bureau said.

"We will not permit those who abuse defenseless children to walk the nation's streets with impunity," said the bureau's New York special agent in charge, Martin Ficke. "We will continue to work to remove criminals who prey on the most vulnerable members of our communities."

Those arrested were citizens of Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica. Citizens of Pakistan and Yemen were also held.

Two weeks ago, U.S. officials in nearby Newark, New Jersey, announced they smashed an international child pornography ring run on the Internet in Europe and the United States and indicted up to 45 people.

A previous thread this morning reported that calling them Illegal aliens or Illegal immigrants is a slur. Some of us suggested criminal immigrants. This just backs up our case!

Well guess what, folks. There are an estimated EIGHTY THOUSAND ILLEGAL ALIEN FELONS running around in just the LA alone who should have been deported...so let's not all get elated over this piece. Until the borders are secured and the illegals deported the GWB administration's "war on terrorism, "war on drugs" and "homeland security" is a F A R C E !

"U.S. agents on Thursday arrested 29 foreigners..."

DOUBLESPEAK ALERT

In English, foreigners translates to illegal aliens.

Reuters is at it again -- Saddam Hussein wasn't a dictator, terrorist or tyrant -- he's just simply,

"the former Iraqi leader."

Can't be judgmental reporting the news.

Not one from a western country...

They were being held in detention centers awaiting deportation proceedings.

This can't be right. I've been assured that the Bush administration does not believe in deporting anybody ever. Even though I live near the border and hear about it all the time I've been told not to believe the facts but to believe THEM.

Which thread was that? I call them "Illegaliens", because there is no difference in the two classes of criminals....

Yes, westerners don't commit such acts....right?

Or what IS your point?

These sleazeballs are being rounded up, but as usual, it is not enough.

These don't deserve deportation - they deserve the SAME SENTENCE they'd get if they were in their native countries doing these crimes.

We need to tatoo a number on these mouth-breathers before we deport so we know if they try to sneak back. In fact, I think we ought to put a tatoo on every criminal alien, and if the government won't do it then "We the People" should do the job.
