Oh, man. Wonder if they were killed in a battle for a weapons cache, or if the cache detonated? Seems like they would be battling a pretty serious enemy force to have 7 KIA.

KABUL (Reuters) - An explosion in southern Afghanistan (news - web sites) killed seven U.S. soldiers and wounded three others on Thursday, the U.S. army said.
U.S. central command said in a statement the soldiers were killed when working near an arms cache in the southern province of Ghazni on Thursday afternoon. An interpreter was also injured and another soldier was missing, the statement said.

SEVEN SOLDIERS KILLED IN EXPLOSION
Kabul, Afghanistan--Seven U.S. Soldiers from Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan were killed, one is missing and three U.S. soldiers and one interpreter were injured after an explosion at approximately 3 p.m. today west of Ghazni.
The Soldiers were working around a weapons cache when the explosion occurred.
The wounded Soldiers were evacuated to the 452nd Combat Support Hospital at Bagram Air Base.
The names of the Soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The incident is under investigation.

All gave some.
Some gave all.

The media got bored with Afghanistan long ago. They won't wring their hands much about these fatalities. Only the "death count" in Iraq matters to the media.
