It's an amazing testament to W's character that he let Kay do his job and report truthfully, and take whatever the truth fleshed out. That fact shouldn't be minimized by anyone, but it will be.

Nice little dig at Teddy by showing how intelligence was wrong during the Cuba Missile Crisis, and fortunately JFK discounted intelligence. HA!

From the Weekly Standard, Oct. 12, 1998:
"Meanwhile, in the Senate a letter signed by Democrats Carl Levin and Joseph Lieberman and Republicans John McCain and Kay Bailey Hutchison urges the president "to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Republicans (and Democrats) should rally behind this effort and thereby deprive the president of any excuse that he lacks congressional support for doing what needs to be done in Iraq."

You mean the Islamofanatics were let in the front door by the people we hired to protect us? You're supposedly an American. Why didn't you stop them?

Kay's reference to the Cuban Missle Crisis and Kennedy's actions based on faulty intelligence (?) might put a curb on senator Ted.........you think?

Warner kicks off questioning
Agrees we must make intelligence gathering corrections.
Starts with "We were all wrong".
Points out ISG must continue. Size of Iraq we could discover some facts that could confirm the conclusions reached by our intelligence and the intelligence of other countries.
Kay agrees and Warner says "So maybe we better not announce we are all wrong yet".
Kay: I believe the effort to this point has been sufficiently intense that it is highly unlikely there were large stockpiles of chem and bio weapons. It's theoretically possible, but not likely.

Of all the WMDead Ender threads, this is the Dead Endist. If the thread's subject matter offends you so damned much, then don't read it!

Well, I heard Kay say "we were all WRONG." I know what you mean by dead ender. What's messed up is that I am normally not trusting of any administration, but on this WMD issue, I decided I'd take the leap and trust them on this WMD issue. Looks like I guessed wrong. I am not saying the Admin lied. I am just saying it looks like they were wrong. This guy is the expert on the subject, it seems to me.
I remember a similar experience about 10 years ago. I had been listening to Rush Limbaugh for about a year or so, and Clinton was president. His economic package was just passed, and Rush promised economic calamity. It was going to be Carter but worse. So I said to myself: OK. I will watch and see what happens and see if this is truth or not. Well, suffice to say, it was not true. The economy actually did very well. And even with the dot com boom, the markets have preserved most of the gains from those years. So I decided that Rush was WRONG.
People will say but this, but that. But events are what they are. So, you live and learn.

We are trying to watch a live Senate hearing.
Go pick a fight on some of the many other Bush bashing threads, please.

Hah. If I may speak as someone who has gone round and round with John on this, to no avail, he believes that all the Democrats in that link I posted above are lying. He believes that nearly the entire Bush administration is lying and should be fired. He believes that 100's of authors and reporters who have written books and articles about this matter for years are lying. He insults anyone who believes that Iraq had WMD.

Yes, there were security lapses that led to 9/11, amongst other failures (Clinton nabbing Osama). But still the blame rests on the America-haters who wantonly killed thousands of civilians.

I think that the most important thing about this is that we now know that it is possible to fool every damn intelligence agency in the world. This is NOT a comforting thought.
To: Howlin
So now that we have the scorecard, who kicks off?

Also early in his remarks Kay pointedly said he had personally spoken with Kennedy before the war and they BOTH knew the intelligence and Kennedy agreed with the then assessment of what Iraq had.
To: Peach
I've had more than a chat or two with Mr. Galt.
