I haven't heard anything at all about those three ships!
To: Vets_Husband_and_Wife
Whoa, nice post guys.
To: WVNan
I think this is going to be another rope-a-dope by President Are you suggesting that Dr. Kay would perjure himself to play irresponsible political games? Or is he being duped by the president as well?

Kay to the best of my memory did not say anything about SH-Iraq 3 "Ships" nor could I find it on cnn's published transcript...rto
btw, try googleing published transcripts, cnn's did not seem to be complete and keep in mind that Kay was in a closed session for several hours before the open testimony

To point out that the intelligence community goes through cycles of near-clairvoyance and near-cluelessness.
During the Cuban Missile crisis, our "intelligence" thought Cuba was warhead-free. When this assumption was proved hugely wrong, the intelligence community learned to be more accurate.
Kay is making a parallel to "intelligence" on WMD in Iraq.
My gut tells me he's being a little pessimistic, point his generally correct and well taken. I believe the WMD's are actually hidden out there or off-shipped to a SH ally, but I also would have expected our intelligence assets to have known where at least some of it was.

I read that already Huck. You are not pointing out anything new to me there. It still is not necessarily the truth. Are you missing that fact? Do you believe everything that everyone says? The reality is that we may never know what the reality was.
To: jwalsh07
I wish I knew who to credit it with, but it came by e-mail to me. Excellent quotes! With dates no less! Good timing too. Feel free to re-post at your liesure!
To: AndyTheBear
Because those quotes are dated and irrefutable. They said it and it's part of their record. We've had those quotes by them on here before. Just never compiled so *nicely* and in living color like that.
What don't you like about them?
To: Vets_Husband_and_Wife
What don't you like about them? Sorry to have been rude. I do like the quotes and appreciate you posting them.
My problem is that I am surrounded by folks who doubt anything that does not fit into their liberal world view. In the interest of enlightening them, I have printed out these quotes.
However, if I were to show them to these folks they would immediately demand that I prove the quotes are real. Telling them I saw them in a post of FreeRepublic would not be acceptable to this group.
To: AndyTheBear
Tell them they are part of the Senator's congressional records. Then they can do google searches.
:o)
That'll keep em' busy.

During the Cuban Missile crisis, our "intelligence" thought Cuba was warhead-free. When this assumption was proved hugely wrong, the intelligence community learned to be more accurate. "warhead-free" where did you learn that and when was this "proved hugely wrong?"
Kay referenced the "film" 13_Days is that where this all came from?

what is true is that we never saw or photographed the war-heads, only the ballistic missiles.
we actually have more proof of wmds in Iraq than we had in Cuba.
we believed in 1962 and later confirmed (199? when ussr archives were opened) that war-heads were indeed in Cuba.
we knew about the missiles early '62 and the Director of the CIA warned JFK whose lack of courage forced him to capitulate to the Russians, escalating the cold war, and sent our military to Vietnam and the rest is history.
my original question was why Kay even brought the missile crisis into his testimony, and why reference the "film" as his source , very strange unless it was meant for Ted Kennedy and family somehow, his whole testimony seemed to be very much rehearsed.
all the bush bashing and calling for an outside review of why we are in Iraq reeks of the leaked memo from last November...rto

As I said:
"To point out that the intelligence community goes through cycles of near-clairvoyance and near-cluelessness."
Sometimes the intelligence community is only reformed from lethargy when a crisis occurs. Despite any gaffes of JFK's part, the Cuban Missile Crisis was a wakeup call to get ourselves fixed, spywise.
And, yes, I think the dig at The Swimmer was deliberate.

but we had excellent intelligence and should have unleashed the F-104s from Key West to takeout the missiles before they were ready to fire, we knew when they were shipped and where the launch sites were and we knew this as early as summer of '62 well before the "13 Days"...rto
