MOST TERRIFYING GUN IN THE WORLD SEIZED
The Daily Mirror (UK) ^ | Jan 26 2004 | Gary Jones

THE first fully automatic handgun to surface in the UK - capable of firing 1,100 rounds a minute - has been seized in a police raid.

It is a Glock 18, banned from sale in the US and described as a "monster of a weapon" that fires bullets with the intensity of a high- pressure water hose.

The ultra-light, Austrian-made gun was discovered in a swoop on the home of a suspected Yardie gangster. Scotland Yard has issued a nationwide alert as they try to find the owner and establish how the weapon got into Britain.

A Met firearms expert said: "It's extremely worrying that such a weapon is here. I can't stress enough just how dangerous this gun is.

"If it was fired on the streets of London by someone unused to its immense firing capability, there could be a massacre.

"Why even a criminal would want to own such a gun is beyond me. It would probably bethe ultimate in gun status-symbols." The Yard has warned front-line officers about the discovery, which followed a a raid on a residential address in Norwood, South East London.

A force internal report said: "This is the first weapon of its kind to be seized in the UK. It is not issued to any agencies in the UK and is believed to have been imported from the US."

The report said the Glock can fire "armour-piercing ammunition". It has a compensation device to keep it straight during firing.

SAS officers use the gun in combat with a 19-round magazine. Israeli security forces and Germany's GSG-9 anti-terror unit also carry it.

British armed police use the semi-automatic Glock 17, also a favourite with criminals.

America banned its import in 1986. US arms expert Walt Rauch said: "Shooting the G18 full-auto is just like turning on a high-pressure hose,"

Det Insp Martin Ward said: "This is something of a monster of a weapon. We are appealing for anyone to come forward in the strictest confidence with information."

This is clearly evidence that the U.K. needs much stricter firearms control. If they would simply just pass a law banning handguns this dangerous device would never have appeared in their country.

People, people, people this has to be a lie! You see, guns are outlawed in the UK. It's impossible, it's a lie! Taking hand guns, or all guns away, by legislation always works! When will you people understand that. Unarmed citizens are happy citizens. We have pr-oven that time, and time, and time again. Turn in your guns or you will be shot! Next we be outlawing really big knives, it is a danger and we just can't have them.

Lay down those arms and die like a dog, or...stand and deliver. I'll chose to die on my feet before I live in my knees.

Sarcasm, and a little realty...Off!

Draw, aim, fire!

..of course since it's a hand gun, it only holds 10-50 rounds.

Largest mag for the Glock I'm aware of is 30 rounds. And fired in a full burst from a handgun of that weight (which is probably what the average low grade thug would end up doing), the probability is that the majority of the rounds would end up hitting ducks or something. The 18 is more of an exotic collector item than anything. And it's far from the deadliest or most horrifying machine pistol around.

And I don't believe it should be simply passed on to a twit who has already demonstrated her total lack of judgement. Let's have a little accountability here.

It's not your money, it's not your call - this is the nature of private property. Better it be put in a trust for her than handed to a pack of leeching bureaucrats to squander on favors in exchange for power.

Any and all Glock 18s proven to have loaded and fired themselves should receive the most severe sanction the law allows...

And try carrying several minutes of ammo. I dare anyone to touch the gun after 500 consecutive rounds fired.

The most terrifying part of this account is that drooling half-wit urinalists like Gary Jones are allowed to write news stories.

Does Glock have a manufacturing plant in the US. I thought they were made Switzerland.

>> Guess what a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 8 rounds of 3 inch double OO buckshot ...

I was thinking about the same thing - just saw-off my unplugged 11-87 and go to town. Definitely a better spread than Glock 18, might not have as many killed, but torn up and incapacitated is just as effective, if not more.

I'll tell you, I have never heard any weapon so LOUD as a .357 sig! Even with muffs AND plugs the gunshot is deafening. I mean shatteringly loud. Have you ever fired the Springfield Armory V-10? I'm considering purchasing a so called "micro" 45 and was wondering if this comp really does the job in holding down barrel jump given it's small size and putting aside for a moment the problems I mentioned before which can be overcome with practice. Well, except the noise. The V10 has a different comp system than many others. Much smaller ports. This might hold the report down some.

I would rather own a fully automatic M-14 or M-16. Having a Glock 18 would be like having sex with a very beautiful sexy woman; it would be great but last only a second and it would take forever to reload.

Nah. There's a neat little 33-round magazine available.

Better yet: carry two of 'em. It's got a selector switch on it; nobody says you HAVE to use it on full-chat.

Of course, as long as it's there....

22 seconds worth

22 MORE seconds of Glock 18

Glock has a US assembly and testfire/import facility. But they're made in Austria, not Switzerland.

Thanks. I guess that wood make a US connection possible if the serial numbers are put on here in the states.

I seriously doubt the Special Air Service troopers carry the Glock 18. Until a couple of years ago they were known to pack Browning 9mm autos. Now, I think they have transitioned to the Sig Sauer P-226, like the Navy Seals have. It is quite possible that some units carry the Glock 17, like so many police departments do, however, there would really be NO REASON to do it when they have MP-5s and a host of other military long arms.

And 9mm Ingram M10 submachineguns/machine pistols. Which they used very effectively. Of course, they're also known to use 22-round magazines for their L9A1 Browning GPs and SIG 226s as well.

The reason they carry them is simple: full-auto Glock in a shoulder holster, or on a car seat under a newspaper, while the handgun rides in a hip holster for use as a backup, should it be needed. Trust me, if the SASmen carry a Glock 18, or a SIG, or Browning, or MP5 or anything else in the world, they've worked with it extensively, know it's characteristics and limitations intimately, and will use it to the limit of its capabilities.

But does it "shoot through schools" like Danny Vermin's .88 Magnum?

"Why even a criminal would want to own such a gun is beyond me."

Probably because of all the coppers packing MP5 buzzguns.

Try sitting inside an M48 tank when the main gun is fired. Inside a hollow steel turret, that sound inside doesn't have anywhere to go, and just sort of bounces off the interior walls until it finally dissapates. But you WILL know when a main gun round is lighted off....
