By RAWYA RAGEH, Associated Press Writer
MINA, Saudi Arabia - Nearly 250 Muslim worshipers died in a hajj stampede Sunday during the annual stoning of Satan ritual in one of the deadliest tragedies at the notoriously perilous ceremony.
The stampede, during a peak event of the annual Muslim pilgrimage, or hajj, lasted about a half-hour, Saudi officials said. There were 244 dead and hundreds of other worshippers injured, some critically, Hajj Minister Iyad Madani said.

Flights Canceled Amid al-Qaida Worries
32 minutes ago Add U.S. National - AP to My Yahoo!
By JENNIFER C. KERR, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Six U.S.-bound flights from England, Scotland and France have been canceled because of security concerns. The U.S. government said it had fresh indications of al-Qaida's continued interest in targeting commercial planes flying to the United States.
U.S. officials have been concerned for some time that al-Qaida wants to use chemical, biological or radiological weapons aboard an airplane. However, the threat information that led to the canceled flights this weekend did not indicate a specific method to bring down a plane or spread an illness such as smallpox, said a U.S. official speaking on the condition of anonymity.

By MATT KELLEY, Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The United States has used information gained during interrogations of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) to help round up insurgents and identify false leads, a senior military official said Sunday.
American military officials believe about 14 cells of Saddam loyalists are operating in Iraq (news - web sites)'s capital, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. There are about 250 to 300 "hard core" insurgents in those cells, the official said.

What is it with the Smallpox scare again? We haven't heard anything for 6 months or so and now out of the blue they are saying it is a threat. Anyone heard of a confirmed case anywhere?

I know nothing about mortars but I'm thinking that would be a tough thing to do. These stadiums are mostly steel and concrete, lots of concrete. Years ago, for fun I worked in the suites at Anaheim Stadium for the Ram games and I remember that stadium was almost all concrete. They also mentioned this morning the roof will be closed at Reliant.

Plane Diverted Because of Security Threat
CHANTILLY, Va. An American Airlines (search) commuter flight was diverted Saturday after a passenger passed a note to the crew demanding to be taken to Australia, the FBI said. The plane landed safely at Washington's Dulles International Airport (search) and the passenger was in FBI custody.
The FBI (search) said there was no indication that the incident involving Flight 4959, operated by American Eagle and carrying 19 passengers and a crew of five, was terrorism-related.

"You owe me a new keyboard!" What a marvelous expression! I'm agonizing, reading through this thread, and then I read your post and just snorted! Your own invention? I can't wait for the opportunity to use it...may I?
It's hundreds of years old, but never was common. Use it with my blessings and in good health...

If that happened last night were these guys planning on hiding somewhere just to get into the game, or did they have other reasons? I hope the people that took them in for questioning were not the same as those who interviewed the guard who was shot in Freeport at BASF. They were the ones who told the guard he shot himself and could tell that by the way his eyes looked.
I don't think they ever found the ME shooter in the white pickup truck either. (oops, I wasn't politically correct)
