"The U.S. intelligence community continues to gather specific credible threat information on international flights, as we have done in an ongoing basis in the past few weeks." Caught in yet another lie, they said on cable news there were 'no' specific intel

Is the following what concerned them? Or because they know they have OBL?
{{{a statement purportedly from fugitive Taliban chief Mullah Omar accused the U.S.-backed Afghan government of destroying Islamic values in Afghanistan (news - web sites) and said the hard-line movement soon would triumph over U.S forces."The spell of American oppression will be broken to pieces," said the statement, which was faxed Saturday to The Associated Press }}}
Sounds like a threat from Omar to me

I fear the economic impact they have in mind is far greater than airlines

IMHO, the days of looking at this as Islam vs Christianity and Judaism, or in any religious context, at least in terms of critical thinking, for me, are over.
This is simply war, unconventional yes, but nevertheless it is a Declared War. Nothing more nothing less. No boundaries, nothing sacred, just us vs. them
And in that context, as the saying goes, "All is fair in love and war". Do not be surprised by anything these people are willing to say or do, because in the end, the only thing that matters for them is total conquest by any means. That is really all that matters to them. Everything else, religion, history, location, oil, etc, has and will be used for the justification of their actions.

"His exact location is not known," Karzai told reporters at his Kabul palace. "Inside or outside the (Afghan) border, it is not clear."
Iran is 'outside' the Afghan border

JP, that is my point. I don't mean to imply just the airline industry. But think a little farther down the chain. What will be the ripple effect of severely damaging the airline industry which is admittedly already somewhat tenuous.
Many many diferent areas of our economy are directly affected by the health of our airline industry, not to mention the indirectly affected segments that are numerous.

7 FLIGHTS CANCELED
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1069028/posts Seven Flights To, From U.S. Are Canceled
My Way/ AP ^ | Jan. 31, 2004 | BETH GARDINER
LONDON (AP) - British Airways (BAB) and Air France on Saturday announced the cancellation of seven flights to and from the United States because of security concerns.
BA canceled four flights between Heathrow Airport and Washington on Sunday and Monday and one from Heathrow to Miami on Sunday. Air France canceled two Paris-to-Washington flights. There are no plans to raise the terror alert in the United States because of the latest threats, Homeland Security Department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said.
"We remain concerned about al-Qaida's desire to target aviation, especially international aviation," said Roehrkasse said.

I thought it was so nice and quiet living by O'Hare at 911, eerie at first but so clean and quiet later. I have hated planes since '90 anyway. Bad experience and an ongoing nightmare of doom
