I think we all go through that to some degree. How do you ever know ? If we closed our borders then I would feel much safer.

Good night, Osama!

Absolutely yes-and I'm not the worrying type. (Did nothing about Y2K, don't worry about Mad Cow, and-ashamed to say- still haven't quit smoking.)
I'm having the exact same vacillation- to the point that I'm trying to encourage my family to travel to another relative's home in a rural area.
Then, for example, I'll go to the grocery store; everything seems normal. Listen to the news- all soothing-snowstorms, Democratic Primary, were there or weren't there WMD's in Iraq, Lacy Peterson...) No one seems anxious at all. Threat level was reduced and all.
Some other things that I keep thinking about are those NEST teams being sent to cities, the recent cog "exercise" when the alert was raised, but mostly, the level of pure hatred on the Jihad forums- which all seem to coincide on the same dates.

"Two senior Taliban officials arrested"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Pakistani authorities have arrested two senior officials from Afghanistan's deposed Taliban regime, reported CNN.
One of the arrested is believed to know the whereabouts of the elusive Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar. Pakistani intelligence sources said the two officials were captured in western Pakistan near the Afghan border.
One was identified as Maulvi Abdul Mannan, governor of Badghais province under the Taliban. CNN reported he was close to Omar, whom the United States has been seeking since it toppled the regime three months after the al-Qaida terrorist network carried out the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The other person arrested was identified as Najeeb Ullaha, a Taliban military commander."

Bump. a widespread fast spreading net attack.
Something to raise paranoia, if even "just" hackers, not jihadis.

LOL!
I think Rumsfeld has it right, when he chose a saying by Herman Kahn as one of his favorites:
"Hire paranoids, they have a high false alarm rate, but they discover all the plots".

First, I must say we have worked hard for nearly three months on representing what the President required of us, monitoring the WOT. It had 'occasional' chat thrown in. I will not whine public, I will not insult anything, but I will express my disappointment at being moved to "Chat".
AlamoGirl has researched and worked very hard, so I'm sure she can empathize how this hurts, we are relegated to 'chat' when our thread had provided all of us with things we never knew to protect our families, our cities, our very own neighborhoods.
I must acknowledge the Freeper's that kept the thread going to reach the point of seeming envy by spoken few.
Their purpose is lost to me, because they will still see tons of latest threads on this, so maybe they could tell us 'why' they moaned and groaned?
Thank you Mossad on beginning Part II and on with the work!
Don't let this defeat you friends. We love our country to much not to be heard!

Part of Patriot Act Ruled Unconstitutional
By LINDA DEUTSCH, AP Special Correspondent
LOS ANGELES - For the first time, a federal judge has declared unconstitutional a section of the USA Patriot Act that bars giving expert advice or assistance to groups designated foreign terrorist organizations.
In a ruling handed down late Friday and made available Monday, U.S. District Judge Audrey Collins said the ban is impermissibly vague in its wording.

Qaeda Military Boss Got U.S. Visa Despite Indictment
Mon Jan 26,
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The suspected Sept. 11 mastermind received a U.S. visa a few weeks before the attacks despite a 1996 indictment linking him with earlier terrorist plots, but there is no evidence he entered the country, investigators said on Monday.
Members of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States also told a public hearing that several of the Sept. 11 hijackers were known al Qaeda operatives, traveled on doctored passports and made false statements on visa applications which could have been detected.
Previously, U.S. official have said that most of the hijackers came into the United States legally on "clean" travel documents.

9/11 commission to examine visa policies
Mon Jan 26
By Toni Locy and Mimi Hall, USA TODAY
The independent commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will question government officials today about whether authorities properly granted visas to the 19 hijackers who carried out the attacks.
The questions will come during the first of two days of hearings into border and aviation security by the 10-member commission, which was formed in 2002 in response to demands from victims' families for an independent investigation of the attacks.

Sept. 11 Panel Explores Border Security
Mon Jan 26,10:19 AM ET
By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Some of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers were allowed into the country despite carrying fraudulent visas and being questioned by customs agents, an independent commission investigating the terrorist attacks said Monday in releasing new details about the attack.
For example, hijacker Saeed al Ghamdi was referred to immigration inspection officials in June 2001 after he provided no address on his customs form and only had a one-way plane ticket and about $500. But Al Ghamdi was able to persuade the inspector that he was a tourist.

The reason for locking the previous thread may not hold water for you, but believe me, every time any of the moderators attempted to access the thread the entire system slowed down. There is a known problem with how the database software works and John Robinson has not yet fixed it.
Daleel is diabolical. He almost baited us into breaking the website. A curse upon every grain of his sand.

I think Rumsfeld has it right, when he chose a saying by Herman Kahn as one of his favorites: "Hire paranoids, they have a high false alarm rate, but they discover all the plots".I hope SOL doesn't take this the wrong way (he's been a bit testy of late), but that's pretty much the way I view his analysis: Probably wrong 95% of the time, but the 5% he's right makes him a real winner and worth paying attention to.

In outlying areas, say 50-150 miles away, would radiation fallout permeate canned foods? I don't know what made me think of that, but now I am curious. I guess I need to read more about Chernobyl.

I'm extremely disappointed. I can believe the moderators when they say that the old thread caused technical problems and needed to be locked, but none of them have addressed why it needed to be moved into chat. I can only assume that it was making someone who has the moderator's ear uncomfortable. I would just like a straight up answer as to why the thread needed to be moved to chat.
It is very frustrating when it seems like one user (who could easily ignore the thread like anyone else) can shuffle the thread off to the back rooms at FR. Oh, and I guess personal attacks against all of the posters on the thread are OK here (mercy).

All of a sudden, the other threads do not interest me.
Sad, but true.
