This is as far as we've gotten so far!
It was just fine until we hit a blizzard wall and the roads started getting too icy to travel on. Considering that it is only 18 degrees outside, it should have been fine, but these moronic highway departments put a sand/brine mixture down that turned perfectly good snow into ice.
How was everyone's CPAC experience?

My CPAC experience was limited to seeing Bill Frist's excellent speech (and Art Linkletter's delightful introduction of him) on C-SPAN. Nice not to have two 'Rat events on simultaneously (C-SPAN and C-SPAN2) for a change!

My trip home was just fine... but I live in NoVA so I just hopped on the metro. :)
Seriously, I pray everyone gets home safely. Much of the country will see some really severe winter weather for the next day or so.

Hey, TaxRelief. Connie and I got back home to Canada about ten minutes ago. Clear roads all the way and a great time left behind in Washington, D.C.

Hi, TaxRelief! It was
so nice to meet both of you at CPAC.
We are home in Connecticut safe and sound, and haven't seen any snow YET. Fortunately we made it out of the DC area in plenty of time (heard the snow started there around 5 or 6pm?). We even had time to stop for a couple of hours at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (and recruited a new FReeper there!) on the way home.
I just found your thread a few minutes ago... I already posted my CPAC experiences here: LIVE FROM CPAC!
I sincerely hope we see you at another FR event sometime soon. In the meantime... um... we'll keep the conversation away from the Super Bowl*, I guess! :-)

It's 18 below up here in Vermont. I just went to pick up one of my kids and was pleasantly surprised that the car started (I forgot to plug it in).

I got REAL lucky.
I missed the storms on my 8 1/2-9 hour drive back. It was just cold. I saw someone spin out on one of the mtn curves about 200 yards in front of me on the PA turnpike. That was scary.

It's been -10 average for a couple months, down to -45 and up to maybe zero. Not a lot of snow but more than last year. Nearly normal, actually. Sky has been clear last night for the Opportunity landing and tonight. Good aurora last night, swirling curtains and bright enough to reflect off the snow. People are driving around almost as crazy as in the summer.

I heard the weather reports of snow and ice moving in from VA to SC, so I skedaddled south on 95 down to Jacksonville, FL. Got there about 2am. Slept five hours, and then took a balmy drive through 75 degree weather west through FL and the Gulf coast. Got into Texas about 7 tonight and am spending the night in Beaumont.

Didn't attend CPAC, but we had a really weird weather experience yesterday (for Hawaii).
![](http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/dailypix/2004/Jan/26/hpa_b.jpg)
I spent about 32 years in tornado alley and never saw a funnel cloud (though I hid through a few warnings). I get to Hawaii, which hardly ever even has thunderstorms and we get this about a mile from our home.
