Back to the Front Marrying Kerry: Forget the hype about blogs and backpacks. It's all about getting warm bodies to the polls. How John Kerry got his groove back, mucked up the Bush battle plan—and proved Democrats are thinking hard about who's the most 'electable' challenger to BushBy Howard FinemanFeb. 2 issue - It was pitch dark and zero degrees outside, and the driver had dimmed the fluorescent lights in Sen. John Kerry's "Real Deal Express" for the long ride across New Hampshire from Claremont back to Manchester.

The campaign day had been a good one, as, indeed, they all had been since Iowa, where months of dogged work—patiently answering hour upon hour of questions from voters in town halls, learning to speak in the crisp cadences of the campaign trail, not in Senatese—had paid off in a come-from-behind victory. But the gloom in the bus reflected Kerry's mood, which was subdued, almost grim, as he jabbed at the soggy remnants of a salad and contemplated what could be a grueling, lengthy contest for the Democratic nomination.

I just don't see US voters voting for a liberal from MASS as their next President. And I'm from MASS.

When President Bush said "Bring it on" they castigated him for it. But there's no double standard in the press, is there? /sarcasm

I heard of a poll of registered voters that had Kerry up 49% to 46% for Bush. Is the Kerry hype after Iowa driving independents to him? I hope and trust that wider revelation of the extreme leftist Kerry was in the Vietnam era, and the extreme lib he remains (ACLU rating of 93% to Kennedy's 88%),will bring people to their senses. The electorate are shallow thinkers in the main, so the worst could actually happen: election of a far-left Demonrat in this era of the terrorist.

So much of it is just about who comes across the best on TV, and that's JK's strong suit. He could mount a strong challenge. But Dubya ain't his daddy. He's sitting on a huge war chest right now, and when the time is right he'll score a lot of points.

Agree, Bush backers will Bushwhack Kerry. It is necessary. And it's already started, none too soon as far as I'm concerned with Bush having been bashed without rebuttal for so long.Too bad Bush can't point with pride at his border and illegal immigration policies. Fortunately most know Dems would be even softer re illegal immigration (it's their voters don't you know)so they can't bash Bush on that with any credibility, although they probably will try.

Everyone seems to forget the First Lady factor. Wait 'til the public gets a good gander at The Heiress. Think Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Not the good Zsa Zsa, the bad Zsa Zsa...

Messed up the battle plans? No one but the media who BTW hyped Dean believed he would be the nominee.

Just a little rope-a-dope with the dems.

Of course. Demonrats have no solution to the illegal immigration problem except to outdo Bush, although they will talk out of both sides of their mouths on the subject in their effort to fault Bush.
