Sounds like amassing some negative karma by profiting from someone's misfortune .... your choice.

Ok, here's where I insult everybody and probably get kicked off the forum - I told my husband I was on a website where people were bad-mouthing an investor for recognizing a good deal and taking advantage of it, and he said - you must be on some liberal-communist type bulletin board. Sorry, but really..............

It can make one feel like a vulture sometimes, but I have to remind myself that I didn't cause the situation.

If this type of reasoning helps you sleep at night, fine. I believe in giving people fair market value for their property, even if they're old and have a lien. What is liberal and communist about that?

If I had a job that made me feel like a vulture for even one day I would get in another line of work.

The information below came from researching the County Recorders Offices

The individual who purchased the property @ 1057 Quill Rd. Copperopolis, Ca 95228 is
Robert Vardanega. P.O. Box 1151 Alameda, CA 94501

He purchased the property at public auction on the Calaveras County court house steps
December 18, 2003 for the sum of $70,000. On the very next day his wife Mei Na Zu,
filed an inter-spousal quick deed transfer.

In my search of County Recorder Offices on-line I found Robert Vardanega in 8 of the Counties that offer on-line capabilities they are.................

Alameda http://rechart1.acgov.org/ over 1000 recorded documents.
Sutter http://www.co.sutter.ca.us/apps/recordsquery/or_name.aspx
Contra Costa WWW.CRIIS.COM
Sacramento http://www.erosi.saccounty.net/Welcome.asp
Nevada WWW.CRIIS.COM
Placer WWW.CRIIS.COM
Solano WWW.CRIIS.COM
Stanislaus WWW.CRIIS.COM

Please feel free to contact Robert if you have any questions or suggestions.
Also for the record the tax lein was for a relativly small amount and arrangements had been made with the I.R.S to pay off their lien. THE I.R.S. LIEN WAS NOT A THREAT TO THE COUPLE.

It's immoral to buy a home at 20 % of what it's worth

Why? Is making a profit immoral now?

Here's where we part company. Judges who 'make' law violate their own role.>

I daresay that you do not understand what the American and British legal system ARE. Our very liberty has always started with the judiciary which DID "make the Common Law" as it went along.

If you want to live in a world where judges cannot make any distinctions at all then go somewhere where the Code Napoleon rules all and judges have no discretion whatsoever.

The Constitution is rooted in and requires the Common Law. You can't separate the two.

PS. My previous post on this subject was sent prior to my reading the whole of your last post. If it hasn't been deleted yet (I've so requested) I apologize.

The key to the notion of Rights is that yes, you have Rights, and by the same token you must recognize the Rights of others.

This couple did not recognize the rights of others and the system worked to protect the rights of others who had an interest.

The couple agreed to trade something of value for services that were provided. They promised to pay and created a property right for the service provider. The service provider kept their part of the deal.

This is about protecting the concept of property rights.

Another libertarian who doesn't believe in paying their contracted debts?

Weak, very weak. It's not a Libertarian issue, this is an American issue. Stuff like this shouldn't happen in America. Do you actually agree with someone stealing the house right out from under an old, retired couple over a measly $120? I hope not.

And for the record, I pay all of my debts, my credit rating is spotless.

It depends on how you make that profit. If you make a profit by selling drugs or smuggling humans, or taking advantage of someone's unfortunate situation, YES!!

If said contract violates an inherent right to property, why isn't it an illegal contract?

Please explain how the contract violates an inherent right to property.

If you make a profit by selling drugs or smuggling humans ...

Neither of which happened in this situation. The transaction was perfectly legal.

or taking advantage of someone's unfortunate situation ...

Golly. Guess I need to go picket hospitals, dentists, and towing services for being "immoral."

". On the very next day his wife Mei Na Zu, filed an inter-spousal quick deed transfer."

Hmmmm... If this was all "above board" why would he have needed to do this?

No need to read any further. Homeowners Associations are evil.
